never watched much of this show before but i found the beginning with john goodman to be pretty funny. if the rest of the show is like that, it would be a shame to get rid of the show.

Oh yeah FWIW, from the promos, I figured I was gonna hate Goodman and his character. I was very wrong on both counts......

This episode was better because it had a lot of Jack and not as much Harriet.

Jack and Jordan are interesting because of the stakes involved, and their decisions actually matter. With Matt and Danny, they are established and essentially killing time: they could be fired tomorrow and it would be a minor career setback.

This episode was much better now, than when it was called:
"Saved by the Bell: Wedding in Las Vegas" Ok, they aren't the same. But it reminded me of it. |

Exclusive: Studio 60 Gets Full Season! So much for all that cancellation talk. Just got word that NBC has given Aaron Sorkin's struggling Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip a full-season order. (That recent Lauren Graham cameo must've marked a turning point.) |
Chalk me up in the group that thought this was the best episode since the pilot. It's a shame that it had to come so late in the season. Hopefully this show has finally hit its stride and will continue to please.
I noticed that Mark McKinney was the story writer. I wonder if he is the reason for the marked improvement? At least comedy-wise. |

Well that's good news.

Now that the show has the full year, the question becomes how NBC tries to fix the ratings. It looks like the show is probably staying where it's at through 2006, but I have to think they'll try it on Sundays after football. I still imagine it being paired with The Apprentice because both (I think) tend to attract a wealthy audience.

Got lucky this year. Of the 4 new shows I got into (Smith, Studio 60, Shark, and the Class(guilty pleasure), only one didn't make it, so far.
I just hope the episodes continue to be written for a higher level audience, and not dumbed down to appeal to the masses. We shall see. |
It's multi-layered
You can't just take it at face value. I didn’t catch this, but my wife figured it out: the whole show was a Jesus sketch. Tom was Jesus, Simon was Judas, John Goodman was Pontius Pilate, the lovestruck Chinese girl was Mary Magdalene, the NBS chairman and attorney were the Pharisees. The diner scene was the last supper. At the rehearsal, Tom/Jesus was alone in feeling cold, then Simon/Judas went up to him to put the jacket around him. A short time later the authorities arrested him and led him away to Pilate.
It's a classic literary device, but you don't expect that kind of thing on a network TV show. |
Just wanted to say that it was nice to see an old Sports Night regular in this episode.

That's awesome. |

I agree. I say more Steven Weber and Ed Asner and less of the 2 stars, who annoy the hell out of me in their roles. |
