VH1's (so called) 100 Greatest 80's Songs
Ok, so I went to VH1 and I couldnt find a list of their so called 100 Greatest 80's songs. Does anyone have a list of them?
If anyone missed it, the #1 was clearly a ballot stuffing on the part of the bands fans, but oh well. I dont care about the actual order of the list. I just want the list. Anyone even watch this? |

as picked by asshole frat-boys on the local bar's jukebox

Only 1 depeche mode entry and it is at 66
You gotta be frigging kidding me. |
#1 and 2 are clearly placed in the wrong spots.
"Pour some sugar on me", the 2nd greatest 80's song? April 1st is a long time away VH1. |
"Don't You Forget About Me" by Simple Minds is not on the list. How is that possible? The theme song to the movie that defined 80s teenage angst, for criminy's sake.
Even though lists like this are subjective, this one has a lot of omissions and misplaced songs. No Tears for Fears No Dire Straights No Billy Joel No Elton John No Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger" I could go on and on. |
"I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do)" is not even close to Hall & Oates best 80s song.
|
The first two are ridiculous. 'Under Pressure' (at 31) looks down on them from a great height, along with over half the list.
And no other Queen or Bowie songs. No Peter Gabriel. No New Order. At least Prince and Public Enemy made it, but the list is beyond flawed. |
After some thought, I would put Don't Stop Believing at #1.
|
At least "Burning Down the House" made it. Harsh.
|
Yeah these kinds of lists are always ridiculous.
|
Damn... dont see J Geils Band... Centerfold or Freezeframe should be on that list... this list is almost as retarded as Stuff's 30 scariest movies (which included movies like Gremlins and Planet of the Apes but NOT the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre... idiots)
|
No Spandau Ballet "True"? For shame, VH1.

You gotta be frigging kidding me. Shit, I hate Michael Jackson, but Thriller should have bumped Bon Jovi out of the top ten. It was the biggest hit of the damned year when it came out. Plus, Vincent Price. Vincent. Price. No matter how much I despise Michael Jackson, he earned major brownie points with Vincent Price. |

No way in hell #1 could have been anything else. When I saw the thread title, that's the first song I thought of.
|
The list needs more (any) Cult.
|
What's interesting is that if you surveyed people about their #1 80s song in 1998, you probably would get a very different answer than Don't Stop Believin', Livin On a Prayer, etc. You probably would have gotten Thriller, Madonna, etc.
|
Let's see...
1 Madonna song (no Crazy For You), 1 Springsteen song (no Glory Days/Dancing in the Dark), no Genesis (too many to mention) no Billy Joel (too many to mention) no Elton John (too many to mention) no Chicago no Bryan Adams (Summer of '69??? Hello??) nothing from The Cars no Don't Dream it's Over no Don't You Forget About Me no Dire Straits no Don Henley (End of the Innocence? Boys of Summer?) no Fleetwood Mac no Heart NO HUEY LEWIS!!! (Power of Love??? Heart of Rock n' Roll???) no Flashdance no Ghostbusters no J. Geils no Centerfield no Footloose no If You Leave no Peter Gabriel (IN YOUR EYES!!!) no Another Brick in the Wall no Richard Marx (Endless Summer Nights, Right Here Waiting) no Survivor no Tears for Fears (Everybody Wants to Rule the World!) no Tina Turner no Tom Petty no Careless Whisper no ZZ Top no Bruce Hornsby (The Way it Is) And worst of all NO S (s s s s) A (a a a a) F (f f f f) E (e e e e) T (t t t t) Y (y y y y) Safe (safe safe safe safe) DANCE! What a joke!! |
Bon Jovi doesn't even belong in the top 1000.
|
Bon Jovi as number 1!?!?! Billie Jean shoud have taken the number one spot. Robert Palmer should have been much higher on the list also and as mentioned before wheres Huey Lewis??????
|
How about the list of songs that should not be on the list in any position? You have to make room to add all of these other greats everyone is suggesting! I'll start (some of these are great songs, but not the greatest):
"I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do)" - Daryl Hall & John Oates "How Will I Know" - Whitney Houston "Love Is A Battlefield" - Pat Benatar "Push It" - Salt-N-Pepa "Total Eclipse Of The Heart" - Bonnie Tyler "Bust A Move" - Young M.C. "Fight The Power" - Public Enemy "One Thing Leads To Another" - The Fixx "Candy Girl" - New Edition "Ain’t Nobody" - Rufus & Chaka Khan "Only In My Dreams" - Debbie Gibson "My Prerogative" - Bobby Brown That's only 12, and zooiiks lists many more than that, nearly all of which are more deserving. |
