Tobias Fünke in the Scrubs universe: Anything new on this?

I know that this is old news, about a month old, but I haven't read anything about it here and to be honest, my main reason for posting this is to find out if any of you guys have heard anything new on this entire thing:

http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=16359

As far as guest appearances go, Braff is really hoping to get a former "Arrested Development" character on.

"The one person I want right now is David Cross. I wanted David Cross to come on as Tobias Funke. I'm trying to broker that deal, with Mitch's (Mitchell Hurwitz) approval. I want David to come on as Tobias… I love that character, and the fact that character is over for good, I want him to at least have one more little life."
http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=24413

Also, David Cross will defiantly be appear in this season of scrubs, and if it all works out he will be playing Tobias Funke. Braff claimed that Cross loves the idea it's just a matter of getting the business part out of the way.

Has this ever happened in TV before? I know characters have switched shows (Spike on Buffy and Angel for instance), but two shows that are unrelated? Wow! This would RULE!!

It happens from time to time. Richard Belzer's John Munch started as a regular character on Homicide and is now on Law & Order SVU -- but he's also shown up in single episodes of X-Files, the Beat, and Arrested Development (not to mention crossovers with regular L&O and L&O: Trial by Jury).

Carl Reiner showed up on an episode of Mad About You as Alan Brady (his character on Dick Van Dyke).

I'm sure there are others.

^^True, but Family Matters and Full House were on the same network.

Has it ever happened where characters went on different networks and appeared on different shows, too?

I prematurely 'shot my wad' on what was supposed to be a 'dry run', if you will, so now I'm afraid I've got something of a mess on my hands.

L&O and Homicide were on NBC, X-Files & Arrested Development were on Fox. I think at last count the character of Det. Munch has been on 8 different shows, spreading across multiple networks.

Kramer did show up on Mad About You, but again, that was the same network.

The character of Warren Coolidge, played by Byron Stewart, was a regular on the CBS show The White Shadow and the NBC show St. Elsewhere. Bruce Paltrow was the connecting link.

Which episode of AD was Belzer in?

Belzer was in two "Arrested" eps, he appears in "S.O.B.s" as one of the celebrity party guests, presumably playing himself. He then appeared as Munch in "Exit Strategy".

Anyways, just like pretty much everything there's a comprehensive guide to the TV crossover on the internet located here: http://www.poobala.com/crossoverlist.html

The webmaster even groups shows together based on them, for example "Arrested Development" and "Millennium" are in the same group due to Munch appearing on "AD" and "The X-Files" which shares a universe with "Millennium".

If he's inserted into the cast, it should be done slowly and carefully, which would result in a greater payoff in the end.

How fitting that would be for Funke.

Yeah, the last thing the producers of Scrubs wants to do is prematurely shot their wad on what was supposed to be a dry run, if you will. God knows they don't need to have something of a mess on their hands.

Take this with a grain of salt, but a guy I know from another message board (and who has proven himself to be trustworthy in the past) said he ran into David Cross on the street one day and asked about this, and Cross said it was the first he had heard of it.

so do we trust some guy from another message board or Braff who CLAIMS "Cross loves the idea."?

was this one guy Cross's agent? then it would make sense that was the first Cross had heard of it.

I'm just being a weiner.

There was an awesome episode of Chicago Hope where a few of the doctors from ER showed up (Noah Wyle was one, if I recall). They were trying to film a commercial for Chicago Hope (in the tv show), and they basically paradied the ER theme. I think it was a last-minute thing and the CH actors weren't told that the ER guys were going to be walking out of a door. It was pretty damn funny at the time, becuase it was a big rivalry. (Granted, CH didn't last so long...)
