Vanished - 10/02

I had only seen the first episode, but was too busy to catch the rest until recently. So during this relaxing weekend, I took in every episode back-to-back. Now I'm not sure if it was due to watching them all in quick succession, but I have to say that it was a lot of fun.

Reading the previous episode threads, I was surprised to see all the hate towards this show. Of course, it's not exactly brilliant in any way, shape or form. But it does seem to have more IQ points than 24 and it's retarded cousin, Prison Break - both of which seem to get free passes not given to Vanished.

I guess I just dig conspiracies, and while the overwhelming omniscience of the antagonists is a bit much, this show's got me hooked in good. The characters behave a lot smarter than other characters in similar shows - like the fisherman boyfriend sneaking that straw to get a DNA sample.

Yes, the show does stumble - as much as I might like Ming-Na, she's poorly cast, as is the main FBI guy. A big irritation was the guy that Ming-Na shot who was choking that FBI guy - what the fuck happened to him? I know he's dead, but wouldn't he a HUGE lead for the FBI as to what's going on? Or how about the guy in the holding cell that tried to kill Ben? It's like they're just ignoring some major things.

So, yeah, this show is stupid, but no more stupid than other shows of the same ilk.

Judging from the previews for tonight's episode, it seems like there should be a lot of revelations... but who knows.

So, yeah, this show is stupid, but no more stupid than other shows of the same ilk.
I'd agree to an extent, however other shows handle actual direction and production better, and again, this show is horribly miscast save for a few characters, and it manages to take the typically weak dialogue of poor series' and make it worse. The plots interesting in spots, it's everywhere else it falls apart.

clckworang 10-02-06 03:24 PM

How have the ratings been for this show? I seem to recall a lot of people were expecting this to be one of if not the first show cancelled in the season, but I haven't heard any more about that. If it's not doing all that well, that might persuade me from giving up on it rather than be left with a cliffhanger, like so many other short-lived Fox shows.

And I generally agree with both of the above posters. The show is stupid, it makes my eyes rolls quite a few times an episode, and yet I somehow can't quit watching it, even though part of me wishes that I would. Anyway, I'm planning to watch tonight's ep, and then I guess we'll have a wait on our hands where we can all decide what Fox shows to continue watching.

Brian Gentz 10-02-06 08:57 PM

well that was a twist!

Like you guys i'm watching this show out of curiosity, and I want to see where they go with the freemason connection.

Snowmaker 10-02-06 09:44 PM

Well, two weeks in a row I've not watched it. It was an easy one to give up.

slop101 10-03-06 01:21 AM

Well I guess they also felt that the FBI guy was poorly cast. The only bummer is that we won't be seeing anymore of his impossibly beautiful wife.

And if this is some omnipresent organization that has its fingers in everything, why do they only have one guy doing all their wet-work abroad?

And the chase in the senate building was beyond ridiculous.

I can't wait for the next episode...

dgmayor 10-03-06 11:56 AM

Saw a screw up. After the press conference when they showed Judy Nash on the news talking about it, the caption said the license plate was 18N8 and not 1N8N

rkndkn 10-03-06 03:04 PM

Gale Harold was my only reason for watching this show, and since I follow his news, I knew he was being written out -- wish it wasn't in quite that way, but I guess it was the most dramatic. I have no idea what FOX is thinking -- I don't expect bland Eddie Cibrian to improve the ratings.

On the one hand, I want to quit the show since Harold is written out. On the other, I need to see them catch Kelton's killer. ;)

Gale's already doing a play in NY this month, but I will sorely miss seeing him on TV weekly. :(

clckworang 10-03-06 03:37 PM

Well, I didn't see that coming. I guess Agent Kelton isn't the new Jack Bauer afterall. When I saw Eddie Cibrian, I was pretty surprised, especially after coming off a lead role in Invasion, but now I guess it's clear that he will probably be taking over the reigns.

IDrinkMolson 10-04-06 05:45 PM

I thought this episode was pretty good. I didn't see the end coming either.

So all of those other Senators died and were covered up by the NTSB.

But, judging by the size of this thread, I guess this will be cancelled soon.

edytwinky 10-04-06 06:08 PM

I've watched every episode and actually like the show. Kelton getting killed surprised me.

If this show gets cancelled, i'm blaming it on the freemasons.

garmonbozia 10-05-06 08:33 PM

I'm more interested to see how the storyline on this show plays out than I am with most of the other shows I started watching this year..... several of which I have stopped watching already. I think I just tried to pick up too many new shows and I cannot keep up with them all.
but this one has enough mystery going for it that I am going to stick with it as long as it can last.

Fox moves struggling duo to new slots

Legal drama "Justice," which currently airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m., will replace the missing-persons saga "Vanished" in the Monday 9 p.m. slot behind "Prison Break" as of October 23.

Vanished" will air in the Friday 8 p.m. berth that week. Fox has been airing repeats in that slot. A reality show is expected to replace "Justice" on Wednesday.

I hope this show makes it for a full season so that we get some resolution. If FOX chooses not to order the back 9 episodes, I hope they can resolve the show in 13.

Flatlander 10-06-06 05:25 PM

Not sure where I read it (I think TVGuide.com) but it sounds like the 13 episodes are planned to air and that they will resolve who Sara really is and where.

Here it is

I never thought this show would last to begin with, but the killing of Agent Kelton just felt like a cheap shock tactic - I mean, who cares if a major character is killed a few episodes in? I had nothing invested in him. It left a real bitter taste in my mouth and I was considering dropping the show anyway.

Original Desmond 10-07-06 12:23 AM

If they cancel the show surely they can give us a 2 hour episode to wrap everything up

This seemed to be the latest thread on Vanished!

FOX'S 'VANISHED' TO DISAPPEAR FOR THE REST OF SWEEPS
By Brian Ford Sullivan (TFC)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- FOX is benching "Vanished" for the remainder of the November sweeps period.

The news comes on the heels of Friday's decision to pull fellow freshman drama "Justice" (read the story) from the schedule.

Both series however are set to return next month - "Vanished" on Friday, December 1 at 8:00/7:00c and "Justice" on Monday, December 11 at 9:00/8:00c.

In place of "Vanished" on November 17, FOX will run an extra episode of "Trading Spouses: Meet Your New Mommy" while the previously announced movie "Bruce Almighty" will fill the slot on November 24.

"Vanished's" most-recent broadcast delivered a series-low (and last place) 0.9 rating among adults 18-49 according to preliminary Nielsen data.

This seems to be the beginning of the end!

I wonder if Josh Berman is going to call Jerry Bruckheimer to get his old job back as CSI writer and Producer. At least he had more job security there.

sabre 11-15-06 05:46 PM

i miss the other leading fbi agent this knew guy from invasion is a horrible actor.

mrpayroll 11-16-06 08:13 PM

Well, that was fast!

FOX AXES 'VANISHED' AS 'JUSTICE' HEADS TO FRIDAYS
By Brian Ford Sullivan (TFC)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- FOX has pulled the plug on "Vanished" while fellow newcomer "Justice" is moving to yet another time slot.

"Justice" will take over "Vanished's" previous home of Fridays at 8:00/7:00c starting December 1.

The series had previously been set to return on Monday, December 11 at 9:00/8:00c.

As for "Vanished," a notice on the show's official web site indicates the remaining four installments of the series will be streamed online:

"The remaining four episodes will stream on the VANISHED myspace page, with a new episode posted every Friday at 12:01 PT, beginning Nov. 17th. Three episodes will be kept up at a time. The series finale will be posted online on Friday, December 8th."

As for FOX's Monday schedule, repeats of "House" will fill the night on December 11 and 18 while various previously announced specials will run until "24" returns to the lineup on January 15 ("The 2006 Billboard Music Awards" on December 4, the movie "Peter Pan" on December 25, the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl on January 1 and the BCS National Championship Game on January 8).

I don't get it. FOX bought and paid for it, why not air it? They weren't ordering the back nine anyways. I mean they are losing money on this show regardless.

Jadzia 11-16-06 09:07 PM

I know, why not just run it in December when nothing else is on?

I don't want to sit through these on my computer. I never even got around to watching the Rock Star webisodes online and I love that show.

Because they must feel that they can make more advertising revenue off of other shows and reruns than new episodes of Vanished - which is too bad, as I was enjoying it - it's a billion times better than Prison Break or Jericho.

DJariya 11-17-06 02:18 AM

I don't think it's a billion times better than either Prison Break or Jericho. The show had some serious flaws, but it's gradually improved and has gotten more entertaining.

With this show getting cancelled, we now have 2 serials (this and Kidnapped) that have gotten pulled from the air and banished to the internet before the storyline was completed. Somehow I don't think many networks will be looking for serials next fall.
