Even though Japanese is a separate language, they did adopt Chinese characters into their written language. Kanji are the Chinese characters, then you have hiragana and katagana. The Chinese character/kanji meanings are essentially the same just pronounciations are different.

I did think the garbage disposal scene was a nice homage to Golem. :}

One more episode and I'm giving up on it. Aurora.. er I mean Ali looks hot but meh. The only character I liked was the Japanese guy, but too much borrowing from the Spider-man films, Unbreakable, and now looking at next week's preview
.
Someone mentioned Jeph Loeb and sticking around because of him. Well, it's not like he's done any wonders with Smallville, so I don't have any high hopes.

And what about the other episodes that made it to air? He's pretty much been the show runner since Ken Biller left in 2004.

They thought they were like everyone else... until they woke with incredible abilities. In Japan, a lowly office worker can teleport at will. In New York, a struggling artist can paint the future. In Los Angeles, a discontented beat cop can hear the thoughts of others. Elsewhere, a high school cheerleader discovers she is unbreakable and a single mom realizes she has a powerful alter ego. Heroes chronicles the lives of these people and the lives of others like them - whose destiny just might be saving humankind.

The scenes in Japan were the best. "Use your Death Grip, Spock!"

I liked it and I didn't care that much for Unbreakable.
A slow start, but I liked the pace and character develelopement.
I am sticking with the show
Plus Ali & Hayden were

For those who didn't like it, just curious as to what you were expecting and what would have made it better for you?

The script needed some serious reworking. The dialogue in this first episode was terrible. I couldn't believe any normal person would talk the way they did in this show. There are just too many characters for a 45 minute show. They plan to introduce even more in episode 2? I'm sure there will be episodes where characters just wont be in it. It's the only way. So far every character is extremely contrived.

The show synopsis actually describes the cheerleader as "unbreakable"? Lame. Besides, she's not unbreakable. You can break her plenty. She just puts herself back together. While Bruce Willis's character was actually Unbreakable.

I really wanted to enjoy this show more than I did, I like the premise, but the dark, super-serious tone of the show is a problem for me (Yes, I know some people will like this show because of this). The show had its good moments, but it kept getting bogged down by the characters talking about being ordinary (or not wanting to be ordinary). The scene where the male nurse gets into the cab and starts having a philosophical discussion with the "Why do we dream" guy had me
. This is probably the least "fun" you could possibly make a show about superheroes without adding Sean Penn to the writing staff.
Pop Quiz:
Choice #1 is a show featuring an indestructible high school cheerleader, a flying (maybe) male nurse, a teleporting Japanese businessman, and a webcam stripper with a violent alter-ego.
Choice #2 is a show by Aaron Sorkin and Thomas Schlamme about the behind-the-scenes world of television.
Which show would you have picked to be the more pretentious, dull, and full of itself?

I didn't hate the pilot, but it didn't really do much for me either. As mentioned by others, the dialog was horrible in quite a few places. And maybe I'm being too nitpicky here, but the whole 'this is the next step in genetic evolution' thing really annoys me. So a change to our genes will allow some of us to have a mirror double that acts independantly of our intentions? And others will be able to render time meaningless? I know X-men did the same thing, but for some reason it bothered me more here. Why does there even have to be an explanation for these people's powers? I think it'd be easier for me to suspend disbelief if they abandoned the whole 'scientific' explanation entirely.
I'll tune in for another episode or two and see if it gets better, but I'm keeping my expectations pretty low. I am curious how these people will use their powers to fight evil. I'd be a little worried going up against the internet stripper and her murderous double, but the rest of the 'heroes' seem like they wouldn't be much of a threat.

I really enjoyed this, and I don't understand the hate. Sure, it's derivative, but what on TV isn't these days? I'm going to really enjoy watching these people learn about and develop their powers, which will be necessary to stop the threat foreseen by the artist in the painting showing some kind of fire monster destroying the city. You know that some people will discover they have power and use it for personal gain, becoming the villains. However, the intro monologue referred to the people with special abilities saving the Earth, so I wonder whether there is some outside threat they will face, and from where it comes. This looks like it could be a lot of fun.

I had vry high hopes for this show and came away dissapointed. I'll stick with it, but man what a shame.
I'm not sure what this show wants to be. Very uneven dialogue and a very iffy plot. It may take a few eps to get going, so I'll hope for the best.
Major bummer so far, I was counting on this as one of my new faves, but right now it does not appear that will be the case.

The cheerleader was annoying?
I don't get it, what was annoying about her? I swear some of you bitch for the sake of bitching. She found out she had healing ability, and she tested it. If anything I wanted to see more of her.
We spent too much time with the 'flying' guy. I'd like to know what happened to the cheerleader that convinced her she could heal. She had some balls to get on that platform and jump knowing that she would hit the ground and be in pain.
Sure, 'flying guy' had some balls, too. But he jumped thinking he could fly. Plus, the flip side to him would be suicide. I getthe feeling that if he didn't fly, and died, he wouldn't have minded so much with his f'ed up life.

I think the Nurse is more of an empath. They mention how well he connects to people. He just has a strong enough connection to his brother that he senses the changes in his brother before his brother actually does.

Interesting. I loved the show, but I thought that he was going to be able to fly also.
I am more interested in learning what the Vegas girl's power is? I didn't quite get it...all I got was that she had some sort of double personality? But that's not really a super power?

The reasons why you guys disliked it is exactly why I really liked it. It's cinematic in a way that most TV shows aren't. I liked that I felt like I was watching a moderately budgeted film.
