Really? It's the first thing I thought of. I figured it was intended as a spoof of Lost, but the timing did kinda suck.

That being said, I'm about as anti-PC as they come, so I'm glad they didn't can the entire opening. Especially since it was really funny.

Yeah, totally lame...FOX even showed THE TEEN CHOICE AWARDS in HD, but NBC didn't bother to show the fucking EMMYS in HD... ridiculous.

Some horrible award winners - showing that not only did the nominations come as a result of name recognition (Ellen Burstyn anyone?) but so did a lot of the wins. Tony Shaloub again? Really? I mean, he's good and all, but spread the wealth...Larry David or Steve Carrell easily gave the best nominated performances of the year in that category...

Loved seeing Piven, The Office, Keifer (Leary and McShane will fight it out next year IMO) and 24...everything else was mostly ho hum.

No love for Colbert - loved his disgruntled rant about losing to Manilow, he's got to address this on the Report this week - that'll be a must see.

I thought Conan was hilarious, the opening was gold and the Bob Newhart bit was funny... best line of the night though was easily:

"Of course it's heavy, it contains the shattered dreams of 4 other people!"

Conan was a fantastic host, and the opening was one of the best openings that I have ever seen for one of these type events. Loved the "To Catch A Predator" bit with Conan sweating buckets. rotfl

The opening was awesome!! One of the funniest I have seen in a while also! And I loved the Bob Newhart bit...his faces throughout the show were too funny!!

Groucho 08-28-06 09:05 AM

What happened to the best animated series award? Was that given on another night with the "Guest Actor" awards?

Yes. Along with a lot of technical awards. The Simpsons won.

Bandoman 08-28-06 10:25 AM

Has the opening skit been posted online anywhere? I thought it was hilarious, and I think the people who are demanding and apology for the "Lost" part are being oversensitive. It was so obviously NOT a reference to the recent plane crash.

the show was really slow. thank god for dvr.

a high point for me was seeing kudrow and patrick king recieve nominations for The Comeback, as well as all the Six Feet Under nom's (too bad none of them won).

I really thought Annette Benning should have picked up an award for Ms Harris.

why don't they broadcast this in HD?

raven56706 08-28-06 11:44 AM

teen choice in hd was great but at least the emmy's didnt have to show us this crap

Tired of the Amazing Race winning every year.

Was hoping for Project Runway.

MrX 08-28-06 03:23 PM

The clip of Stewart and Colbert presenting where they're making fun of reality TV is worth watching just for the pissed off on Heidi Klum's face:lol:

Gizmo 08-28-06 05:00 PM

Opening as fantastic.

Conan needs to start hosting every awards show. He's comedy gold.

True, and S9 was pretty entertaining (if not significantly any different from previous ones or especially memorable). But if half your season is total shit, you really shouldn't win "best" anything.

You know what bugs me with the post-Emmy coverage this year and every other? How the trades bemoan winners for cancelled shows. I wasn't at all thrilled by those that won this year (Danner, Alda, Mullally), but it's because there were better nominees in their categories (and all have been rewarded in the past as well), not because their shows won't be back. If the Emmy gods had smiled upon Alan Ball, Lisa Kudrow, Will Arnett or Arrested Development I would have been happy because they deserved it. To say they didn't just because some network suit has since pulled the plug is just stupidity. The work should stand on its own merits.

movieking 08-29-06 06:13 AM

Not all shows were cancelled. Some left of their own accord.

Top Ten Reasons I Didn't Win An Emmy presented by Larry David

10. The was no 'annoying bald Jew' category

9. How am I supposed to compete with that pretty boy Tony Shaloub?

8. They didn't like my idea of doing a tribute to people who should have died this year

7. I refused to sleep with Ernst and Young

6. For some reason, everyone in Hollywood thinks I killed Pat Morita

5. Due to a clerical error, I was listed on the ballot as 'David Larry'

4. In case you've never watched my show, I'm kind of a prick

3. Charlie Sheen and I split the 'hooker-loving bad boy' vote

2. I don't know and, frankly, I don't care

1. Hey, at least I didn't lose to Barry Manilow

movieking 08-29-06 05:04 PM

Saw that last night on Letterman. It wasn't as funny as I had hoped.
