Deadwood or The Wire??
Which do you like best? Imo these two are the best shows on tv right now, with the shield right behind.

Man, this is tough. I think the scripting and plot is much tighter on The Wire, but Deadwood has more entertaining characters. Deadwood is certainly amazing, but I've got to go with The Wire overall.

I love these both equally, but I have to give the edge to The Wire just for the fact that they have more material out (counting the forthcoming S4), and they have a chance to resolve the series in a non-abrupt fashion (thanks again HBO asshole executives).

I like them both a lot, but I'd have to give season 1 of Deadwood a slight edge over Season 2 of The Wire. It took a long time til I even watched The Wire because there are so many cop shows on tv, so I am a little prejudiced.

Deadwood. Both are very dense shows IMO. I stuck with Deadwood because I found the backgrounds and costumes to be fantastic (particularly in HD) and the characters are so rich. To date, it is the only Western movie or tv show that I can tolerate, so that says a lot. It will never be one of my top favorites, but it certainly is very enjoyable to watch.

I love both but would much rather have more Deadwood than more Wire. The Shield isn't as good as The Wire but it would be substitute enough. There's nothing out there to replace the void that will be left w/ the loss of Deadwood. I echo the comments about the HBO cocksuckers.

My Top 3 has been The Wire, The Shield, Deadwood for a while now. The Wire wins because it has a more coherent and focused narrative across an entire season, whereas Deadwood can meander about at times. Like Red Dog notes, these may be the two densest shows ever on television.
I think it's just coincidence that the best two shows on the air are cop shows, since neither is like any other cop show, or any other show of any kind for that matter.
