Blade the Series opinions?

I'm watching the marathon on Spike. I think it has potential. Unfortunately I think it's suffering from bad-lead-actor syndrome where every time I see Kirk 'Sticky' Jones aka Blade on the screen I can't wait for the show to cut to another scene.

The supporting cast is good (and good looking) and so far the writing is pretty tight.

I tried to watch the pilot and couldn't make it to the end. The lead actor was trying too hard to impersonate Wesley Snipes instead of making the character his own. I would give it another shot if I read that the show gets better but I'm guessing that isn't the case.

I watched the first few episodes, but then I just realized a few days ago that I had quite recording it and didn't really miss it. I agree with both of you that Jones is very weak in the lead. I never thought they could find someone who could emote less than Snipes in the films, but they managed! I thought it was decent, but the fact that I missed a week or two and didn't even realize it indicated to me that I really wasn't too invested in the show. Maybe I'll catch the rest on DVD or something.

Just from watching the commercials advertising it I could tell it was no good. I dont see why they have to ruin a good movie triliogy into a bad tv series.

maingon 07-30-06 06:36 PM

I tried watching a few episodes but found myself fast forwarding most of it. The lead tries to copy Wesly Snipes too much, I was looking forward to this show cause it had potential

I got to the middle of episode 3 before I gave up myself... I found the story in the pilot very good, but it was a little too slow and all three of the male leads really bugged me... I was watchign episode 3 and realized I was beyond bored, and took it off my tivo and canceled the season pass...

Original Desmond 07-31-06 01:39 AM

I'm enjoying it

The supporting cast are better than the blade actor

Still for a TV show, has good action, decent enough story, nothing groundbreaking but for fans of the movies it delivers well enough

Big Boy Laroux 07-31-06 10:37 AM

yeah, the show is much better when Blade isn't on screen... and i think the people running the show seem to know that. seems like he's been in it less and less.

plus, i don't like how much of a wimp blade is in this. he's getting his butt kicked left and right. i don't expect him to dominate everyone, but come on. do something!

Mopower 07-31-06 11:40 AM

It sucks.

Bandoman 07-31-06 01:01 PM

The pilot sucked, but the episodes have been amusing. I also think the lead actor sucks, but the supporting cast is good, and I like that they tell things from the vampires' point of view. Pretty good action scenes, too, for a tv show.

I totally agree that the lead actor is terrible. I thought that Snipes did a prety good job with the movies, but this guy taking his place is awful. Anyone that actually gives themselves a middle name i.e. "Sticky Fingaz" or whatever the hell it is, is a sure sign of total crapness. Get a better actor and i will tune in.

crankyman 07-31-06 02:14 PM

damn good show.

the lead actor is a bit...dry....but the other actors more than make up for it.

we should always have one vampire show on tv....and this one is a good one.

I have all the eps on the dvr, but haven't found the interest to watch them. I've been enjoying Supernatural reruns this summer.

Just finished the episode from last night and I'm surprised by how much I'm enjoying the show after a mostly mediocre pilot. I can't believe how much of a wuss they've made Blade and find the fight scenes (as someone mentioned in the pilot thread, he is slooooow), or generally any scene he's in, to be the dullest part of the series, last night being an exception. But the supporting cast is good, the whole undercover theme they have going is interesting, and I like the Wire-like pace. Certainly not what I was expecting going into the series, as I thought this was going to be more monster of the week. Plus Jill Wagner .

A recap of the Q&A from Comic-Con, with some interesting ideas if they manage to get a 2nd season.

I've enjoyed this show more and more every week. The fight scenes still need a little work as they seem a little too slow. I have found myself looking forward to Wednesday nights now to see how the story progresses...well...that and to see more of Jill Wagner.

I couldn't have written that better myself. You nailed it for me too.

I'm actually pretty surprised with the storyline thus far...it's much better than the 3rd film, and is opening the possibilities that this could end up being a pretty good, multi-season show if given the chance.

I don't get how people are saying it sucked...Jones is no Snipes, but he's not exactly that bad either...

more blade for me!

err...that didn't make sense. but i do like the show and i hope it makes it...

TyroneJordan 08-03-06 08:32 PM

The first time I saw Jill in that white dress, it was like KABOOM!

Lurker1999 08-06-06 02:52 PM

Ok I've managed to give this show another chance (seeing how I'm watching just this and Stargate SG-1 currently). I continue to think the "Blade" character is the worst part of the show but fortunately although the series is titled after him, all of the "supporting" actors are given a lot of good screen time. I like all of the side plots that have been continuing from episode to episode. The arc format makes it more tolerable to fast-forward through the segments where Blade is given too many lines to speak.

Baron Of Hell 08-10-06 01:10 AM

This is only my second episode but I thought the show was pretty good. The funny thing is blade the movie which came on before the tv show had some serious edits in it to make it less violent. However, the tv show had kids sticking knives into people, it was a blood bath. Weird.

Yeah the guy they got playing blade isn't the best or they are directing him wrong. Maybe they should make him less Snipes like. Buffy was nothing like the movie and that worked. The kid blade was probably the best actor on the show.

My thoughts exactly.

I think the storyline dealing with the internal workings of the vampire houses is a lot more interesting than Blade or his back story.

BobaGooch 08-10-06 01:47 PM

I think the Blade series is great, me and the wife watch it every week, definitley one of the better new shows out there. We especially like the inner workings of the vampire clans also, and it was really cool how they showed how whistler got has jacked up leg.
