Who would you put on a revival Match Game panel?
Inspired by last night's episode of Gameshow Marathon, I got to thinking what celebrities I would get for a new version of Match Game. Here's what I came up with:
Sarah Silverman David Sedaris Sarah Vowell Penn Jillette Paris Hilton Betty White Hosted by Joe Flaherty. Of course, not many of them are washed-up enough to want to appear on Match Game, but that's okay- it'll never actually happen. I'm also a little hesitant about giving Paris Hilton any more publicity, but she would be so perfect as the dumb hot girl I can't in good conscience leave her out. What's your version of Match Game 06? |

Andy Dick seems like a natural to do this show.
|
Dream Cast:
Tom Hanks Host Charles Nelson = Andy Dick Brett = Bette Midler Richard = Harrison Ford Then I Would Round It Out With: Billy Crystal, Robin Williams and Whopping Goldberg |
If they can't get Bette Midler, how about Joy Behar?
|
Sarah Vowell is a great choice, but Paris Hilton isn't actually hot. And no more Andy Dick or Kathy Griffin or any of these average-talent publicity whores. We get enough of them everywhere else.
I'll steal your good ideas and go with the following (in order): Tony Kornheiser/Sarah Silverman as slightly clueless only-there-for-a-day upper-left-corner guest Sarah Vowell as unattractive but funny upper-middle lady Penn Jillette as eccentric upper-right-corner guy Jennifer Tilly as Tits McGee Jerry Doyle as Richard Dawson Betty White as distinguished lower-right-corner guest Hosted by William Shatner das |
Jennifer Tilly and William Shatner are both great choices.
|
I would love to see Alec Baldwin in the Richard Dawson slot.
|
Upper left - need a game show guy (or Jimmie Walker) so - Regis Philbin
Upper middle - Sandra Bernhart Upper right - need a gay male celebrity - Nathan Lane Lower left - need a hot dumb chick - Carmen Electra Lower middle - male comedian - Jimmy Kimmel Lower right - no sign of slowing down - Betty White |

I really think the recipe for success is to find two stone cold regulars who pretty much have to have little else to do, about six people with just little enough to do to rotate in for two of the remaining spots, and leave two spots open to rotation for freshness.
Stone cold regulars: Andy Dick is a great call for the upper right Paris Hilton is another great call for the lower left Rotation slots: Kevin Smith Betty White (she still has it) Patrick Warburton Sarah Silverman Jim Gaffigan RuPaul Let's try Dave Foley at host. |
Richard Dawson!
|
You know you couldn't get him as a regular, but the ultimate guy to get in there for a week's worth of episoides would be Bill Clinton. That would be a riot.
|
I thought Richard Dawson was in extremely poor health?

"Match Game '06 is so great because one of the panelists is blank."

Jay Mohr, Dat Phan, Ant, and Chuck Norris. Chuck will do his thing.

Let's hope they buck the modern trend of focusing on the contestants with only 2% actual game play. Aside from filling in the blank, I don't want to hear a damn thing from the contestant. I don't want to know their hard-luck story, I don't want to meet their family, and I sure as hell don't want them standing at the center of some absurdly gigantic set with roving spotlights and ominous music.
I'm not holding my breath. das |
Betty White is a must. She's still going strong and was the only good thing about the Match Game episode of Gameshow Marathon (because she has class;)).
I can think of two people, who would likely be first in line, that I wouldn't want on it: Kathy Griffin and Bruce Vilanch. Those two are an obvious consideration for the Brett Somers and Charles Nelson Reilly positions, but I'm tired of her and he sucked on Hollywood Squares. They both sucked on Gameshow Marathon. |
They need to recreate the party atmosphere more than anything.
ETA: Tracy Morgan needs to be a semi-regular. |
Norm Macdonald
Jeffrey Tambor |

Of course, this show was pretty scripted too, no? |
It will be the same level of celebrities that were seen on the recent Hollywood Squares. Just like it was in the old days.
You can pretty much gurantee that Kathy Griffin will be a regular or semi-regular. Don't screw with the formula. They're tried to re-do the show twice since it ended and both times were total failures. And, by all means, pick a fading c-level comic as host. |
