Monday night alert (5/15), Bush to address Americans on TV regarding immigration

Why can't he wait until after the season finales?
Don't know how this will affect the network shows on Monday night, but hopefully they will not decide to carry this address.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Amid a clamor over illegal immigration, President George W. Bush will make his case for a comprehensive overhaul of U.S. immigration law on Monday night in a prime-time Oval Office address, the White House announced on Friday.
White House spokesman Tony Snow said the White House was asking the U.S. television networks to carry the speech live at 8 p.m (Midnight GMT).
Bush and many members of the Republican-led U.S. Congress are divided over how to address the issue of up to 12 million illegal immigrants working in the United States, with conservatives pressing for tougher border security.
Bush wants more border security along with a temporary guest-worker program for the illegal immigrants.

I remember when he did this a few years ago, screwing up the O.C.'s schedule and people were pissed. He made some comment a few days later that he was sorry for the viewers, or whatever. But fuck that, messing up my Monday PB/24 night!

And this will likely REALLY screw up the DVRs. I'm going to have to pad the hell out of everything.
WB and UPN probably won't be affected, but ABC. CBS, FOX, and NBC might be. Fox could just push stuff back an hour and let the affiliates deal with whatever problems that causes in the 10pm hour. NBC has a two hour Deal or No Deal starting at 8pm, so I don't know how they'll deal with that unless they edit it down or bump Apprentice.

There are plenty of cable news channels for those who want to watch this. It's time for the networks to let go of this old idea of ALL carrying the President's speeches.

It's not as if he is going to say anything earth-shattering. If there was anything urgent to say they would say it now and not wait 3 days to "announce" it.
Just issue a statement or hold a press conference during the nightly news. Any pertinent soundbites will be re-ran for the next few days anyways.

Nobody's saying don't him let him talk.
There are plenty of sources outside the networks where one can hear Bush speak - cable news, PBS, radio, internet, or just read a transcript the next day.

all the political stuff has been removed and/or edited.. please keep the politics talk to the politics forum .. while it's obvious it's effecting tv, the "political"ness doesn't need to be talked about in this part of the forum..
