Is one a clone of the other?

Could be. The names are interesting. Candle and Wick. A wick is part of a candle. Wickman could be the clone from Candle.

Also, strange that both videos are copyright 1980 but the Swan one was shot on film while the Pearl one was shot on videotape. Cutbacks maybe?

They both still seemed to have their glass eye though...

The EW article is an interesting read. A couple of little sayings here and there that could provide an idea of where this is going. I do believe, though. that we will see a drastic change in the scheduling next season.

Hopefully they don't both end up at the Flame station! It could be explosive!!

I don't want to know any spoilers plot-wise...but does the article mention that they are leaning towards doing something like 3 blocks of 7 or 8 shows? That's how I'd like it, even if it meant a mid-October (or even early November) start.

Jadzia 05-14-06 10:17 AM

I think the bank tube must go to the "new" Fantasy Island.

http://img.timeinc.net/ew/features/9...tasyisland.jpg

Did anyone else watch that show? They had an elaborate bank tube system to reach Mr. Roarke on the island.

lukewarmwater 05-14-06 01:58 PM

So do we think they have this all planned out or are they writing it as they go along?

I'm sure it's a little of both.

I read a few articles where they have said they know the endgame and several major plot points, but yes, to some degree, they are making it up as they go along.

An article I read said they were considering either running the series straight through, a la 24, or doing two blocks of episodes, one in fall, one in spring.

Either would be fine with me. I don't know why ABC is so worried that it's going to hurt their ratings...hell, the way this season was aired is probably a main reason for the decline in viewership. I'd probably prefer 2 blocks.

This might have been brought up before, but:

Anyone else feel like this Candle/Wick dude is somewhere on the island? Like in another station? Like the station the bank tube leads to?

Perhaps the "incident" involved him losing his arm? Could it be the Swan blast doors chopped it off somehow? If Candle Wick was ever a part of the experiment in the Swan it could be him who drew the map.

I like your idea concerning Candle / Wickman and the blast door.

As for where he is, as cliche as it sounds,

Spoiler:
He is at the FLAME station (candle/wick)

Interesting that in EW's article they say that this show is about Redemption and that they will be able to do stories about Redemption for years to come.
Yes, but will anyone be left who cares in a few years? Are they trying to make this the new Touched by an Angel?

I read that line to my wife this weekend and she said "ummm... no."

I have to agree. I do NOT want this show to go on for years and years with stories about the characters and their lives and "redemptions". That is going to get old fast, and I think the ratings will sink like a stone.

Ultimately, what I want (and what I think most viewers want too?) is for the story/mystery to slowly be solved over the course of another 2-3 years. And then end the damn thing.

I don't want this to turn into ER with a whole new cast of characters. I don't want it to run so long that the mythology impodes upon itself (ala X-Files). Unfortunately, it sounds like the creative team is planning for this to run for a long time, with no real endgame in sight. (grumble)

I haven't read the most recent EW article, but I remember on the extras for the Season 1 DVD the writers/creators said that they had planned the first 5 seasons before starting the show, at least in the sense of general arcs and plotlines.

Also, I was rewatching the episode with my brother-in-law who hadn't seen it yet. When it got to the cliff, he didn't see the mark in the ground at first. I rewound it and showed the scene again, pointing to what I thought was a "?". My wife disagreed, saying that it wasn't a "?", at least not until the plane fell on it. She thought it was an "O", possibly a symbol for Pearl Station.

It made me wonder, maybe all the stations have a marker that can only be seen from overhead. It would explain how the dropped food arrived where it did.

So, just to poll people, was it an "?", or a "O" ?

Looked like a "?" to me.

You know you'd be there for the third season.

A-aron 05-15-06 09:23 PM

in the video - what is the dome-like structure that he is standing behind? could this entire "island" be inside some sort of Bio-Dome - and, if so, when does Pauly Shore appear?

Hey there Hurley, buuuuuuuuuuudy

It didn't much look like a ?. If we believe that the blast door map is accurate, then they weren't at the ?; they were east of it.

It seems clear to me that it is just a circle marked on the ground to aid finding the location from the air. I think the mapmaker drew a question mark because he knew or assumed something was at that location, but was unsure of what it was. Perhapt the producers made the symbol vaguely question markish, but I'm pretty sure it is just a circle.

boobietheclown 05-16-06 09:30 AM

Looks like a circle to me.

Big Boy Laroux 05-16-06 09:46 AM

it's a question mark, if you factor in the hatch door as the dot. remember, it is right under the plane's tail.

boc4ever 05-16-06 09:59 AM

I vote for ?

How do we know they were east of it?
