trying to remember an old series
 

I'm trying to ID a series that was on very briefly.
This was in the early 1990's I think. I think it was a summer replacement series on CBS. It only lasted a few episodes.
There was an object approximately basketball-sized that could fly around very fast. This thing was intelligent and talked with the human characters. It may actually have been the title character. I can't remember if it was a robot/machine or an alien of some sort.

That's all I recall. Does anyone know the name of this old show? Thanks.

TV.com says Hard Time on Planet Earth was on CBS for 13 shows in the spring of 1989. The object was a small floating robot called Control.
