That lookalike Bush is on Leno a lot.

lucasorion 05-01-06 02:06 PM

I thought the lookalike segment was pretty weak. I saw him before in a clip from the Jeff Foxworthy roast and he was much better there. The Helen Thomas pre-taped bit went on too long. The big laugh for me in there was when he was yelling "Noooo!!" in his car, then paused to carefully back up, then looks back at her and yells "Noooo!!" again before driving off. Little moments like that really hit my funny bone.

das

I thought most of the jokes were from The Report, but I wasn't sure. Seemed like I'd heard most of the stronger material before.

Only in this country can you publicly lambast the president, RIGHT IN HIS FACE, and not endanger get your entire family in doing so.

True, but I did hear that The Colbert Report tonight is live from Guantanamo Bay. ;)

You haven't seen some of the televised debates from various European countries then, which are usually straight, unscreened citizen-to-politician debates that can get really, really nasty (and at times even physical).
Most of the stuff that happens in the US is staged or pre-screened.

And nothing happens when it gets physical?

Boy that crowd was really dead. I thought that "Hindenburg" joke really deserved a better response. Overall, I did not think that it was that outrageous.

wmansir 05-02-06 02:03 AM

I don't think the crowd response was so dead because any individual joke crossed the line, but just because it was a near relentless Bush bash. The event is suppose poke fun at the entire DC crowd and while the prez usually gets a few licks, it's not just a roast for the President. If you want to see what it looks like when someone bombs for being too "outrageous" try to find a copy of Imus's performance, in 1996 I think.

Wow, iTunes has the whole audio performance of the speech today.

Too bad it does not include the video too.
