Funny, though we've already seen her dad and he was definitely not Goodman-esque.

I thought this was an excellent episode.

Snowmaker 04-20-06 07:24 AM

Was that little flashback of Elliot's with Carla helping her out actually from the first season? If not, they sure did a good job making her look 5 seasons younger.

I was curious about that too - I guess I'll have to try to remember that scene when I get around to watching season 1 on DVD :)

You do realize why I picked John Goodman, right?

kvrdave 04-20-06 12:31 PM

I also thought it was the weakest episode, but it was still great to watch.

Didn't really like the Turk story/jokes but still enjoyed the show.

Janitor fixing the computer

I did, hence the "funny" :)

I just watched the first few seasons and I am 99% sure that scene with Elliot and Carla has never been in the show, so yes, good job turning back the clock.

What show did most of you watch? :hscratch:
I thought this episode was 100% DREADFUL! Just painfully unfunny, slow and pointless. I wasn't a fan of the other HIS Story episodes, but this one was by far the worst -- it supplanted My Life In Three Cameras as my least favorite ever. I laughed exactly once : At The Todd's line quoted previously, other than that, snoreville.

I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to put this down into words properly, but this episode made me really dislike the Janitor.

Maybe I'm looking too much into it, but the last line when he's letting JD out of the tank really bothered me...the one where he's like "let's pretend to help him up so he thinks we have a chance at being friends" (extremely paraphrased).

I get it that they are each others nemesis, but as Scrubs is wont to do, they're is normally an underlying glimpse of the goodness of characters that are supposed to be "mean" (i.e. Kelso, Cox, and the Janitor in other episodes). It makes you see further/deeper into the character....however this episode really only showed me how self-centered/bitter/lonely Janitor is, and I was turned off by it.

It also bothered me when the guy with the computer said "Thanks" to the Janitor. For what?!?! It would be one thing if Janitor was spending his time trying to comfort the guy, but all he was doing was venting and scheming.

Outside of that, I enjoyed the rest of the episode.

That was my first thought as well. Why is he thanking HIM? At no point during the episode did I get the feeling that the patient would have wanted Janitor in his room. Not to mention, no way the hospital would allow him to just hang out in a patient's room.

He thanked him for just sitting there and talking to him. The guy was lonely and probably doesn't get a lot of human contact.

PacMan2006 04-21-06 01:08 PM

^^Exactly. He thanked the janitor for his time. And the janitor--although I believe he did break his computer, ended up fixing it/getting a new one.

I thought the same thing about last week's episode, which many here seemed to like.

I don't know, I thought this week's had some good laughs. Not classic stuff by any means, but pretty decent.

It seemed to me that Cox got him the new computer, not the Janitor.

I agree that the message you were supposed to walk away with was that he was thanking him for his time, but look back at how that time was spent and if it was me I would've wanted the Janitor to go away. All he was doing was ranting.

I kept waiting for that little snippet of kindness from the Janitor, and it never came, at least in this episode.

PacMan2006 04-21-06 02:38 PM

Maybe I am remembering wrong, but I thought the janitor fixed/got a new computer for the guy.

I do see what you mean...but there was some humanity with the janitor...when he said that he works in a hospital and likes to think that in some small way, he makes a difference. And therefore the ending was supposed to show that. He made a difference, albeit a small one, to that one patient. Sure, he was just ranting about himself and his problems, but he was also engaging with that patient a little bit, too.

At the very beginning of the episode when the computer broke, Dr. Cox said they would have to get him a new one. Cox was even the one who brought the new one to the patient and apologized for taking so long.

PacMan2006 04-21-06 05:25 PM

But didn't the janitor accidentally break the guy's keyboard...and then he made him another one (or bought him a new one)???

Bronkster 04-21-06 05:59 PM

as I remember it, Janitor was attempting to fix the already-broken computer, but made it worse.

Big Boy Laroux 04-21-06 06:48 PM

cox brought in the new computer, definitely.

kantonburg 04-23-06 07:46 PM

Guys, guys!

Nurse mophead came in and said his new computer would be there tonight. So the computer was already on it's way before janitor destroyed it.

phatboy 04-23-06 11:07 PM

anybody know what the name of the song was playing at the end when the janitor is walking away....something with "nobody knows my name"...I googled it but it was sung by a woman and it wasn't the right song.
