What kind of sound does a magnet make? If I heard the sound of something powering up, a magnet would be pretty far down the list of things I would think of.

I thought that too, unless I had actual knowledge of what a magnet powering up sounded like, I wouldn't even be able to guess. It just sounded like something that generates power, it could have been powering anything.

My other confusing moment was during next week's preview:
Spoiler:
You see jack "crossing the line" and wanting to trade "Henry" for Michael/Walt and then "Henry" saying they would never do it. But didn't he basically tell them at the end of one of the last episodes that he would send A-L out to a remote spot so that The Others could kidnap her and trade her for him? It seems like Jack is following that recommendation, I know that "Henry" said they would never trade Walt, but I bet Jack would trade just for Michael. Michael seems no more important to them than A-L.

Haha. The first time we same him in the jungle, I said to my wife, "that reminds me of a Dave Attell joke. 'Pajamas is not a good look for a bald man. It looks like an escaped mental patient running down the street.'" Hopefully I didn't mishear that joke ;)

Any dictionary
I see it used as a noun only for a totally different definition, but it's really just splitting hairs.

Hurley going berzerk on Sawyer made the entire ep worthwhile.

That and Henry saying that it sounded like a magnet powering up. The end w/ Locke and "Henry" was great - too bad Locke didn't shoot him while he was in there.

Aphex Twin 04-06-06 02:37 PM

Has anyone else brought up the fact that this is another episode where the writers/producers of the show use another idea that came from the theories of internet geeks? Everything being in Hurley's mind was brought up like half-way thorugh the 1st season.

madara 04-06-06 02:46 PM

Enjoyed the ep quite a bit again. They were bordering the cheesy & funny line but I glad to see they didnt go over it. Sigh, only on dvdtalk is there 3 to 1 ratio of going off subject in a thread with elitist english experts.

I thought I remembered that being mentioned. It occurred to me last night that it'd be kind of funny if their strategy was to throw out enough weird stuff to get the internet all ablaze with theories, then handpick the best ones and use them for where the show goes next.

Spoiler:
Before that he said "they'll never give you Walt." So I assume that line about "they'll never do it" was just referring to him.

And in the case of them capturing Sayid, Ana and Charlie, and trading him for them from the prior episode, it's clear the others only wanted Walt and maybe Claire's baby, so it wouldn't be the same situation. They would have just captured them just for the purpose of getting Henry back in that scenario...not because they wanted them for some other reason.

Yep, I mentioned it on the first page. Was one of my favorite things about the episode.

Someone needs to come up with the theory that the Sawyer caused the plane to crash in an attempt at having a threesome with Kate and Anna Lucila. And he succeeds.

Patman 04-06-06 03:35 PM

Do the Losties know that Walt's been hanging out with Earl Hickey (on NBC)?

Didn't Jack fall off a cliff following his father (Locke pulled him up)? I don't think it was a new idea to utilize the images that way.

Given the proliferation of theories from internet geeks, I'm not surprised. It would be hard for them to not come up with something that's been posted on the internet. In fact, when the show comes to an end or the current story lines are resolved, I'd be shocked if they managed to come up with an original idea. And if they do, it will have to be something so strange and so out there, that in all likelihood, it will be something stupid.

So I'm fine with this situation.

No, Vincent's still around. Shannon was taking care of him for a while, and we've seen him with Ana Lucia at least once.

Actually, given what happened to Walt and Shannon, does that mean Ana Lucia's days are numbered?

Not necessarily. "Hey guys! Libby and I were walking through the jungle when we found this stash of food!"

I suppose...but I don't think many would buy that coming fromt he morbidly obese guy who hasn't lost any weight.

But of course the real answer is it was just a spur of the moment thing, Libby was egging him on (she gave him the ranch dressing to dump out) and he wanted to impress her.

Shemp 04-06-06 04:57 PM

When Dave was listing all of the evidence pointing to Hurley being in a coma, did he allude to Hurley seeing Leonard (the mental patient with the numbers) in the hatch at some point? Did I hear that correctly? Was it during Hurley's dream sequence in the hatch? I forget.

orangerory 04-06-06 05:00 PM

Ok - here's my Kooky theory. I'm not a "losty internet geek" - I've missed many episodes and have no desire to go back and rent the other seasons, and someone else may have come up with this theory - but it goes something like this:

The Island somehow creates what you want - e.g., Hurley wants food, so then there's a mysterious crate of food, the druggie rock star guys wants Heroin - so it appears in a plane crash, everyone wants shelter - so they find a "hatch" - only there are "bad sides" to getting these things: Hurley goes crazy, rock star goes nuts, the "others" appear, etc...

Kinda like the Butterfly Effect. But better. Much better. And you're not going back to change your past - you're changing your present.

I'm sure there are other examples, too: Michael wants to be a "Hero Dad" - so Walt is kidnapped, Sawyer wants power - so he's able to steal the guns, etc...

Anyway - that's my little bit of over-analyzing and trying to probe the minds of the script writers.

No, Dave was talking about Hurley seeing the numbers on hatch door.

The canadian cut of next weeks preview is up at youtube, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PxUR...page=4&t=t&f=b
WARNING! Does contain possible spoilers, click at your own risk.

in regards to the preview
Spoiler:
Looks like John makes a lockdown happen again; he's looking at the map on the back of the door. It must not be random, something triggers it or Henry knows a code to make the doors come down.

kenny79 04-06-06 07:15 PM

Hey, you know what? I think it's actually a great joke on the writers' part. Hurley is the personification of the Lost fanboy, and Dave is trying to persuade him that it's not real and it's all in his head -- as in, stop obsessing about this show.
