When did your favorite tv show "jump the shark"?

"Friends", right after 6th season when Monica and Chandler get engaged. From then on 7-10, they were just going through the motions.

Roseanne - After they went into the diner business, things started getting rough. And the less said about the last hideous season, the better.

MASH - After Radar left. The show lowered into sanctimony and silly puns.

Get Smart - After Max and 99 got married. The episodes with Hymie are also unwatchable, even when I was a kid.

NYPD Blue - The Rick Schroeder years. However, the show did a sweet upturn with the arrival of Zack Morris.

ER - The death of Mark Greene, but I still stuck around. Then when Romano was killed, I stopped watching and haven't been back.

Honestly, you should take another look at that last season. Only about a third of the episodes were completely outrageous and out of character. Having tivo-ed that last season and having watched every episode now, I've come to re-evalute it and have found some really affecting episodes in there. It wasn't a total loss.

24 -- The second half of season two, when suddenly there were 500 layers of conspiracy with about 80,000 people in on it, and not all of it added up. 24 ran with it and took it to extreme levels in later years to the point of parody.

On Buffy The Vampire Slayer when she started "doing it" with Spike.

LaVerne and Shirley when they moved to LA.

Voyager when they started bumping into Aliens that they weren't suppose to pump into Delta Quadrant.

All in the Family when Edith died and they brought Stephie on.

Dallas when Bobbie came out of the shower.

I agree completely that this was the JTS point for Friends.

Not a favorite, but one I enjoyed: That 70's Show: When Donna and Eric didn't get married - that should have ended the series (would have come full circle from the first episode.)

Season 7 was absolute crap, no doubt. But I thought Season 8 was a nice return to form for the show. It jumped again though in Season 10. And the less said about "Joey" the better.

I agree that "Buffy" jumped the shark right after "Tabula Rasa". It was all downhill from there.

"Lost" seems to have jumped about 2/3 of the way through last season.

"The O.C." and "One Tree Hill" both jumped after Season 1.

"Alias" jumped after the Season 2 finale.

The OC is a steaming pile of shit this season and with few exceptions, it feels like the series going to get worse, rather than better.

One Tree Hill, on the other hand, is not quite so bad and has not bottomed out the same way The OC has in the last two seasons.

Nip/Tuck in the middle of Season Two, when it started ... getting sappy? Soap Opera-ism? The overreactions? I can't quite put my finger on it, but Season One was quite good compared to Season Two. Not looking forward to Season Three (if I even make it that far, as I have reshelved Season Two without completing it).

Season 3 of Nip/Tuck makes Season 2 look like "Upstairs/Downstairs".

I forgot about The OC. I agree. Desperate Housewives after Season 1 too.
