So does this mean JOEY is dead?

I just read in Entertainment Weekly that
Spoiler:
Andrea Anders is going to be in a new comedy next fall on CBS called The Class with Jon Bernthal.

That does not bode well for a third season of Joey.

No, it does not. Even EW said that. I fully expect that the show is gone for good. Too bad; it was a guilty pleasure.

That's a shame - it wasn't the greatest show on television but it was definitely better than any other traditional, 4-cam, laugh-track sitcom I've seen in years.

It definitely wasn't a direct replacement of Friends, and suffered from trying to please too many people at once, but I enjoyed watching it (and it looked GREAT in HD.)

I just realized that Joey was the only real sitcom I was still watching, having dumped That 70's Show and Will & Grace this past season. The only half-hour comedies I watch now are The Office, My Name is Earl and Scrubs (RIP Arrested Development :() - I wonder if this signals the end of the "classic" sitcom?

I liked Joey for the most part, but I loved Andrea Anders

Goldberg74 02-23-06 03:00 PM

I don't think its dead, but they might phase her out if she does in fact get back with her ex. Then they could get out of the apartment complex and back to Joey's new house.

raven56706 02-23-06 03:09 PM

i hope they move the office to 8pm....

I think given how expensive the show is and how disappointing the ratings have been, this is not shocking news. I think they were committed to two years, but there's no incentive for them to extend it past that. Unless LeBlanc is willing to cut back his $700,000 per ep salary.

Are the Office, My Name is Earl, and Scrubs not sitcoms or something? We may be out of the golden age of sitcoms, as hour-long dramas and reality shows squeeze them out, but those three (and AD... please come back!) are still good (even if they don't get the ratings they should).

GuessWho 02-23-06 03:48 PM

He meant that The Office, My Name is Earl, and Scrubs are not traditional in that they're filmed with 1 camera (like a film) and without a live in-studio audience.

You can't kill Joey, you can only hope to contain him.

Dr. DVD 02-23-06 04:03 PM

Joey was interesting when he was trying to break in, but the second season came off as a watered down version of the HBO series Entourage to me, so I lost interest. Personally, I never thought much of it.

This was reported last week (I think I read it at zap2it.com). Anyway, the deal is that her role in the new comedy is contingent on her availability, i.e. if NBC picks up Joey then she is out of "The Class".

Joey must be related to the Grimace. Nothing can kill the Grimace.

I didn't even know that there were still sitcoms with a live studio audience... I hardly ever hear that announcement at the beginning of the show anymore. Maybe because I don't watch those traditional sitcoms much.

From everything I have read and the benching of the once tentpole sitcom for Thursday. My guess is, it will quietly go away with out NBC admitting it's "Cancelled".
Although I could be wrong. NBC doesnt have anything better to put on and they are still mistreating Scrubs so...

Agreed - I didn't really like the "reboot" and the addition of new characters, the movie, etc. The first season had plenty of funny moments, and each episode was better than the one before, for the most part. Didn't see the need to mess it up.

If they spread MNIE and The Office out, I would think they'd lead off with MNIE at 8 and put The Office at 9.

Shoot, now that I think of it I haven't heard that since Three's Company.

Maybe they just don't say it anymore

Pressplay 02-23-06 10:42 PM

That show was a mess. I watched it from time to time, but I won't miss it when it's gone.

Chew 02-24-06 06:12 AM

It's showing up on my TiVo schedule for Tuesday March 7th 7:00CST. I guess it found a new home.

Charlie Goose 02-24-06 06:27 AM

"Could the show BE any more cancelled?"

Heck I thought it was pretty good, but I'm not crying about the loss. If it is dead, I'm sorry that it just sputtered out and not given a finale.

That's Drea DeMatteo in the Sopranos, not Andrea Anders.

She was also very good as Stiffler's mom in American Pie and as the title character in Juwanna Mann.
