Skating with Celebrities
Watching this now. Skating, I'm sure, takes more time to master but it looks like amateur hour completely. Celebrities all look stiff on ice. No competition for Dancing with the Stars.

Wow I had no idea Kristy Swanson was on the show!

OK, what did I not see in the Bruce Jenner performance that the judges did? He was terrible. And on the opposite end I thought Kristy Swanson's performance was good and the judges didn't like it.

Jillian Barberie is the only decent celebrity skater so far but she apparently had some skating experience. Pretty good performance.

Most disappointing. Where was the heartbreak? Where were the injuries? FOX knows we tune in to these things to see D-list celebrities in peril. Bring the goods.

Debbie Gibson did not shake her love :hump:

they promised lots of falls and spills and bad skating in the promos. I don't think they showed enough of that - dammit! Also, some of the "celebs" clearly have more skating experience than others (i.e. Jillian Barberie trying to do jumps, uncle joey being a canadian ice hockey dude) so they aren't really starting at the same level. Suxs that the judges decide who goes as it appears that many episodes have already been taped. anyway, seems like a weird companion to 24 on Monday.

If I can get Ethan Suplee pushing an office supply cart this week, then I should get Kerrigan slammed into the boards by Dave Coulier, crying "WHHHYYYY... WHHYYYYYYYYY!!!!"

Airing Monday this week FWIW. |
I just watched this for the first time tonight and is it me or do the male celebs have a huge disadvantage over the female celebs?
The male celebs are paired w/ a professional female skater. The females w/ a professional male skater. There is no why in hell that the f/pro skaters are going to allow the m/non pro skaters to throw them in the air or doing anything that may risk their lives. While the f/stars will trust the m/pro skaters because at least they know what they're doing. |
So, the only couple that is any kind of fun to watch gets sent home. Lovely. My interest in watching more episodes just went away.

Which is.....? |
Spoiler:
|
Sorry but they totally stacked the competition so Julian Barberie could win this competition.
Like someone said, the male professional teams have an advantage. Jillian is easiest the best skater with by far the most figure skating advantage....Dave Coulier has hockey experience, but like the judge said it is an advantage but also a disadvantage. The youngest pro is is of course Zimmerman, at least he last competed in 1998 |
Agreed. It seems stacked and not at all focusing on what I wanted to see, aka, D list celebrities who can't skate at all trying to learn to skate. That's fun stuff. I would much rather watch folks fall and look the fool than Barberie look like she has been skating for ages. Meh. I think Fox missed what would make folks want to watch this show.

One of the women is supposed to suffer an injury next week. Nothing severe from the preview.

Yeah, this thing is awful. I really expected something more low-class from Fox, but they dropped the ball here. For anyone bitching about Dancing with the Stars using audience vote, this is precisely why. Viewers never would have kicked the most entertaining group off the show first. They're not hurting themselves, and they're not entertaining (sans Todd). What's the point?

Yeah, I gave this show a chance but it's actually WORSE than I expected in that it's just so dull. The worst thing these sorts of shows can do is deny the audience a voice. It's the participation and the spontaneity it creates that makes these types of shows fun, IMO. Plus the whole thing feels 'canned' (in that it feels like it was taped ages ago and doesn't have that fresh live feel or even a simulated live feel), which it probably was. Can we get Prison Break back early? :)
|
The only reason I watched it was for the blood!! Before the show started Fox promoted it like we were going to see some falls, etc.. Now that they aren't showing ANY of that it totally sucks and I won't be tuning in anymore..
Not to mention the other reasons that have already been brought up.. Freaking make it fair!! Todd Bridges never skated in his life then you go the other girl who is doing jumps and spins like a professional skater.. |
