When Did Cartoon Network Become Live Action Network?

So during the 24 commercial breaks, I've been channel surfing and I noticed something weird that's occuring on Cartoon Network. They're showing a live action movie. The movie in question is Snow Day, but the movie they're playing doesn't matter, it's the fact that:

1. It's a live-action movie.
2. It's a live-action movie being shown on Cartoon Network.

Now this isn't the first time this has happened. On Christmas they were playing Jumanji, but I could let that slide, due to film's constant use of CGI. However Snow Day has no CGI as it's a low-budget children's movie. But seriously, what the hell? There have been numerous animated films to come out in the past decade (let it be traditional or CG), but who is making these decisions at the network?

I only watch Adult Swim, so I'm not sure (although they did mention on there that they'd had alot of luck in the past with Fox's garbage, so maybe they should pick up Arrested Development  ).

Trust me I understand what you are saying. G4-TechTV has basically dropped the Tech TV part of their lineup. Now they are dropping games from their lineup very slowly. Why is a videogame channel showing Star Trek, and the Man Show?

Snow Dogs does have CGI in it though.....

Cartoon Network was also playing Goonies.

RocShemp 01-16-06 11:07 PM

And they've shown Small Soldiers a few times.

Ranger 01-16-06 11:08 PM

and the '89 Batman I think.

I know for G4 they are in the proccess of rebranding themselves. They are going to be another "Man" network like Spike TV.

I can't find any listings for this.

Are you sure it wasn't Toon Disney? They're showing the live-action film "Inspector Gadget" on the 18th.

I see it on my TV listings on right now.

I remember back in the day when Cartoon Network showed old cartoons pre-Cartoon Cartoon days like Powerpuff Girls and such and they used to show the Banana Splits which wasn't a cartoon at all. As long as Cartoon Network doesn't completely lose the cartoons (a la MTV losing the music), I think we will be fine.

Was channel flipping yesterday afternoon and stumbled across it. Definately confused the hell out of me. Had to flip back and forth a few times to make sure Iwas watching the right channel. I hope this isn't a new trend.

Slightly off topic, but I only watch [adultswim] on CN. Do they ever show I Am Weasel or Cow and Chicken any more? These were about the only 2 shows I watched of theirs pre[adultswim] and would like to see these again.

This just makes me wish even more that Comcast gave me Boomerang

Which makes the whole takeover bittersweet. They drop the shows people actually watched, TechTV, so they can broadcast crap game shows 24 hours. Now that they know no one watches that shit they have to bring in anything that will draw viewers. aka, the Man Show & Star Trek.

That channel is a joke.

And what's worse, it's season one Next Generation! :yack:

Wife and I caught some C&C just the other day on CN. We also have Comcast Ondemand (Chicago area) and C&C, Courage the Cowardly the Dog and a few others are always listed in the complementary section.

There's a fantastic editorial about this on Toon Zone, if you're curious.

A-aron 01-18-06 04:37 AM

As long as CN keeps Billy and Mandy (I'll drop everything to watch), then I won't complain about the movies.

Rockmjd23 01-18-06 04:40 AM

If they get rid of 12 oz. Mouse , they can show whatever else they want and I'll be happy. :)

The first season of TNG is still better than anything else they've got on the whole channel. I do watch Cinematech from time to time, but it's not really a show you sit down to watch. It's show you watch because you can't find anything else on.

I noticed this over the weekend too. For a minute, I was thinking it was The Pagemaster (Or another 90's movie with animation sequences in it) but everytime I flipped back, all I saw was live-action.

I wouldn't be surprised if "Cartoon Network" gets a name change by the time '06 ends.
