Did anyone see the finale?

What can they possibly come up with now? If Sam's dad leaving wasnt the cause of him going back to 1973 what is?

I saw the finale + the rest of the series and enjoyed it.

However, as yet, I haven't got much to add in the way of analysis although I can say that I found certain scenes with Sam's dad "unrealistic" - within the fantastical context of the show's setting - but thought that this might be deliberate.

I will have to cogitate some more and get back to you!

Hey,

One idea I had was that Annie is actually a fellow coma patient lying next to Sam.

Heads up, this premieres Monday night (7/24) at 10/9C on BBC America.

I just got finished watching the series today, and have to say I really liked the combination of a cop drama, humorous elements, and the sci-fi/supernatural part. For the most part there shouldn't be much that Americans wouldn't pick up on, aside from maybe the one football-oriented (soccer) episode.

Very interesting to see where they go from here, since Sam's dad leaving around the time he went back to seemed to be one of the main topics. But I guess there are still matters left to be resolved, such as whether "The Mortons" are really just Vic Tyler, and whether he can be absolved of any wrongdoing. My guess is that his first job was to save Annie. Beyond that, I'm sure he'll have more things that need doing in the second season, but they seem to imply that he's getting closer to getting back. My guess is that it'll all lead up to something involving saving his girlfriend in 2006.


Mods: I wasn't sure whether to create a new thread for the BBCA viewers, or use the old one. It looked like most stuff in here was spoilerized though, so I went ahead and used this one.

I orderd the UK dvd of this and am looking forward to it.

While I may be an American now, I was born in London in 1971 and lived there to 1978 - I may have been young, but I wonder if I'll be able to gleen much from my youth to help understand the show better.

DVR'd the first two eps. and watched them today. Really enjoyed both. Apparently, OnDemand has the first ep. uncut, so I'm going to track that down and see if the extra 10 minutes made the premiere even better.

Looking forward to the rest of the series.

I've watched the first 4 episodes from the R2 dvd (pretty good dvd set), and I like it quite a bit. My only disappointment would be that I was hoping that the show would be more serialized, and not so episodic.

I won a competition a month or so back to visit the set and meet the cast while they're filming season 2. If all goes as scheduled I'm going next week (Wed/Thu). If people have specific questions I may be able to get answers.

That's so cool.

The only questions I would have is if the show will have a definitive ending, and how many seasons are they going to go before (if) they wrap it up.

I think Annie is the 70's version of his girlfriend in 2006 (or will turn out to be). It's possible the real Annie was never saved from Sam's dad and has actually been in a coma for 33 years.
Also I think Sam's dad must have somehow inspired him to want to be a policeman in the 70's (remember we see a photo of Sam as a 4 year old in a policeman's helmet). I think, wierdly, if Sam's dad had been saved from a life of crime, maybe Sam wouldn't have become a policeman.

Been watching it a little on BBCA, just to pick up on a few things I missed the first time around. Kind of annoyed that they're not showing it in letterbox though, in addition to cutting it to put in ads.

Watched it both on my regular old 4:3 television, as well as my 16:9 HDTV. Either way, the sides are cutoff. For example, last night towards the end when he's in Hunt's office and looking at the "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" poster, the entire left half of the poster is cut off. But its there in the widescreen version of the show I downloaded.

BBC America always shows ads here, though occasionally they'll extend the running time to accommodate the entire show with ads.

BBCA airs "encore" installments on Sunday nights, IIRC.

Didnt care for the second episode as much. I liked the mixing of the time travel aspect and the cop show and the former was almost non existent. If they are going to do just a straight up 70's cop show, great but there weren't even many fish out of water aspects in this episode.

He doesn't keep time travelling. He's stuck in that time period.

I don't think that was the assumption; the criticism is not that Sam doesn't "time-travel" (or whathaveyou) again, but that any addressing of his predicament is side-tracked for plain old retro-cop-show hijinx. Which is kind of a problem that plagues the show at first, though less so as the series progresses, and not without some nice little exceptions (like Sam's exchange with the ambulance driver in the...second episode?) driving home his displacement in interesting ways.
