Hang on for season 4. It's definitely one of the best, if not THE best season.

I have to agree with most here that season 4 is the best season of the show. If you can't watch the whole season, just watch the last disc of season 4. Classic episodes there

The Boyfriend -- I liked the JFK parody quite a bit. In fact, just about the best thing I've seen so far. George's boxer scene was also funny stuff. Interest in this thread has died. My interest in this show has died too. I'm finishing the next disc, which is the end of season three. If it doesn't get better for me, I'm done. The Boyfriend is my favorite episode. And not just because I love Keith Hernandez (and no, not in a sexual way---in a I love the Mets way). In my opinion, you need to stick it out. The key to the show is Frank Costanza. As he evolves, George reacts, which changes how Jerry reacts and alters the George/Elaine relationship. Stick on board pal, stick on board. |

If the season I'm watching, the "second best" one, gets a m'eh and my viewing log to date as a guide (especially my character reviews): is season 4 so immensely better that it's going to turn my opinion around?
|
Probably not. But you will get more laughs out of it. Maybe not enough to drastically change your opinion. But 4 is widely regarded as the pinnacle.
|
You don't need to stick it out. Thanks for going so far with it - it's been an intresting read. One last thing, though, you really should watch "The Contest". Just that one episode. It's arguably the most famous, and possibly the funniest, of the show's entire run. I think you might even enjoy it and you deserve to end your experiment with a laugh.
You've made it this far. You don't have to watch through "The Contest". Just watch "The Contest." |

(And if you do, definitely watch the syndicated version of "The Handicap Spot" instead of the original version, just so you can see Jerry Stiller as George's father.) |

(And if you do, definitely watch the syndicated version of "The Handicap Spot" instead of the original version, just so you can see Jerry Stiller as George's father.) Dear Chew. If you're reading this, you've gotten out of your "not gonna read this thread anymore" prison.. And if you've come this far, maybe you're willing to come a little further. You remember the name of the show, don't you? We could use a good man to help continue our project. I'll keep an eye out for you and the game of Risk ready. Remember, Michael. Seinfeld is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies. I will be hoping that this letter finds you, and finds you well. Your friend. Ryu. [edited to reflect that the OP is Chew, not Michael. Oops, sorry Chew.] |

Very nice. |
The Fix-Up -- It was certainly fun to see "Janice" without her nasal accent and chill-to-the-bone laugh.
The Limo -- It was also fun to see "Nate Fisher" as a Nazi. I guess I don't have anything more to comment on these episodes. I am thinking about kitkat's suggestion for tonight though. |
The fix up and the Limo are both very bad episodes, IMO.

Man, there sure are a lot of bad episodes of this show, aren't there?
I've never really enjoyed "Seinfeld" either, and I've seen 25-30 episodes over the years (including the "classics" like The Contest, The Puffy Shirt, etc.) Never really did much for me, and I wouldn't have any desire to sit through another season of a show I wasn't really enjoying, no matter how "good" people say it gets. Maybe it seems irrational but I think 3 seasons is enough time to prove a show's worth. |
The Limo is one of my favorite episodes of Seinfeld. So many great lines in that one.

...so Chew really needs to see the 4th Season to get 3 "full" seasons worth done. ;) |
Yeah, I'm calling an end to my grand experiment regardless of how many seasons we agree or disagree on. Last night I jumped ahead per kitkat's suggestion and watched:
The Contest -- I enjoyed this episode. Not enough that I regret my decision, however. Three big laughs: the first spongebath scene, Kramer's "I'm out", and Jerry singing along to Tiny Toons. I watched a grand total of 38 episodes, which is a lot more of an experiment than I give the average new program. My opinion improved to "indifference" towards the show, but when you do not like half the characters: it makes it pretty hard to move beyond that. I appreciate everybody who played along and am a bit sorry I still "don't get the humor". :) |
I should also add that is was very weird to see "Daphne Moon" as Jerry's girlfriend in that episode. She acted and talked almost exactly the same as her Frasier character. Considering Frasier was also on during this timeframe, it seems a little odd.
