I like to put my name down as Cartwright at restaurants.

I put my name down as Cartwright at chineese restraunts too.

The Note -- "I think it moved" I'm glad Kramer is now much more a part of the group instead of just barging in on Jerry's apartment. I'm sure it doesn't last long, but big  to the bizarre addition of background vocals to the theme music.

And to Gil Jawetz: I'm obviously not saying that at all. I just mean I had already seen that sort of plot on CYE. It doesn't matter which really came first, I saw it first on Curb. It dulls the impact seeing it a second time on the original.

It happens the one time, never to be heard again. They talk about it in one of the extras.

 I've been a huge fan from the get-go, but when I bought the sets, that blew my mind as well. I thought WTF? I'd seen the episode many times before, but must have missed the credits or ignored them altogether.

I remember that as well, I think somewhere it says that they changed that beginning in syndication.

Also the episode where there is no Kramer I believe is the last time that ever happened, they actually changed their contracts to say that each character would be in every episode.

Upper pylon 3 01-12-06 03:05 PM

^Nope. It happened one more time. In "The Pen" Kramer and George are AWOL. Jason Alexander threatened to quit the show if it happened again after that.

Edit to add that Elaine, aside from not being in the Piolet, was absent from a few at the beginning of the 4th season because Julie Louie-Dryfus was pregnant.

I wholeheartedly agreed with that at first, but I also remember hating the original theme music as well. I've more than come around since then, but that music used to literally almost ruin episodes. With the DVDs out I've watched that ep numerous times and I'm almost used to the background vocals already. If they kept them, I think I probably would have gotten used to them the same way I got used to the normal stuff.

Thanks man I knew I was somewhere on the right track with that

Didn't they shoot a whole bunch of stuff from the shoulders up of her on vacation with her svenjolly and use that? I remember it being very funny. I also remember the celebration when she returned to Jerry's apartment as seeming very genuine and warm, which was out of character for the show but a memorable, nice touch.

Michael Corvin 01-12-06 08:19 PM

Yes. I believe it was Paris.

Chew 01-13-06 06:06 AM

The Truth -- Can't remember the exact line, but George's "I've sent women to lesbianism before, but never a mental institute"

I think I'm warming up to most everybody here now and they aren't quite as annoying. I'm afraid George's character is too "cheap" and self-centered for me to ever fully embrace, but I'm getting there. Laugh meter has generally tripled, but that still only puts us around three. ;)

I have plenty of patience with the show, have patience with me.

Yeah, they did that for an episode or 2 before she came back. But she was definitely not in the 2-part "The Trip" episode at all.

Chew 01-16-06 05:54 AM

The Dog -- just about the worst sounding dog impression I've ever heard.

The Library -- I got plenty of laughs out of Mr. Bookman, but that was about it.

I see The Parking Garage is coming up. I remember hearing about that episode even in my nearly Seinfeld-free bubble.

Like The Chinese Restaurant, this episode is memorable for being ... well ... a different episode. I'm interested to see how you like it.

The Pen is also considered a "classic" episode. I think that one is just before The Parking Garage.

"It's like an ice cream man named Cone".

That Kramer line always makes me laugh.

OMG - "The Pen" is possibly my favorite episode! "STELLA! STELLAAAAAA!"

Chew 01-18-06 11:40 AM

Here's where I lose whatever readers I have left.

The Pen -- This was the episode of the constantly repeating joke. "turn on the AC", "my back is killing me", "it's really only 2 days", "the pen writes upside down!" They weren't all that funny the first time and by the third and fourth, became downright annoying.

The Parking Garage -- when you know what's going to happen before it does, it really lessen the humor. You knew Jerry was going to get caught, you knew George was going to get caught, you knew Kramer was going to lose the AC, you knew the car wasn't going to start.

majorjoe23 01-18-06 12:09 PM

Actually, the car not starting wasn't scripted. It really didn't start. If you look closely you can see the cast members start to lose it.

That's true. I have an original shooting script for this episode and it specifically refers to the car starting and them driving off.

That's awesome, I didn't know this. I'm going to check that out tonight. It's really interesting how you don't realize these things while you're watching them for the first time. It just makes it seem so much cooler that a decent amount of material was improvised on the fly. And I absolutely love it when something is so funny that the characters themselves have a hard time not losing it.

lotsofdvds 01-18-06 01:18 PM

They talk about the car not starting in the extras on that DVD. They show rough footage from the scene when he tries to start the car, and you can see everyone just lose it.

Not only that, but Michael Richards actually got out of the car, looked around, and got back in when it wouldn't start. But you could clearly see everyone inside busting up. That footage is also on the DVD.

So you didn't think the Uromisotisis line was funny?

Yea, I'm pretty sure you're not going to like the rest of the series.

Yea I remember Jerry talking about not knowing how to end that episode, and after the car wouldn't start, they realized that was the best way. Ever since, I always focus on the cast in the car and realize that they're laughing their ass off.
