51. Andy Kauffman is Tony Clifton on Dinah!

What I wouldn't give to see that in it's entirety. The description alone that I've read is hysterical.

What about Sinead O'Connor ripping up a picture of the Pope during her performance on SNL?

Good one. Much more unexpected than "Debbie Downer cracks up".

Of course, now it would be unexpected for anyone to laugh during SNL.

Sacheen Littlefeather is a good one, but the Oscars have had a lot of other good surprises:
  • Streaker
  • Jack Palance's one-armed push-ups
  • Surprise appeareances by Christopher Reeve and Woody Allen
  • "A simple thank you would have sufficed."
  • Marisa Tomei wins! WTF?!?!?
  • etc

That was the first thing I thought of too. Should be in the top 20 at least.

Oh. I do remember that. Problem is that it was in the pilot. You don't know or care for any of the characters yet so it is just some dude getting shot.

Sadly #56 wasn't unexpected.

(Sopranos related, so if you haven't watched the series yet, I will spolier it)
Spoiler:
As soon as we found out the FBI was onto Adrianna, we knew her days were numbered on the show. What would have been unexpected is if Tony Soprano ever allowed and FBI leak to live!!!

And no inclusion to Al Capone's vault???

I'm not kidding...there was a big hub-bub at the time about whether Smits' character was going to make it or not. EVERYONE knew he was leaving the show, but nobody knew if the writers were actually going to kill him off. Up to his last episode there were rumors in the press that his character was going to recover, but have to retire due to his health condition. That's why his final episode remains one of the best hours of TV I have watched in the past 10 years.

What about that streaker running behind David Niven?

I definitely agree with number 18.

Even though you know he might, you had hope.

And surprising is that it is so high. Happened only three-four months ago.

I had to google that one. Apparently, the father and Dora was at the airport.
Spoiler:
He went to go board the plane, then came back on the screen. Dora asks "what happened?" He says "It's cancelled!". Dora replies "the flight"? Father responds "No.. the series!". The camera pans out and all the actors wave and do their curtain calls.

Kind of funny. I remember watching the show a little, but I'm not sure if I ever really followed the show or watched the finale.

I think the Terrance & Philip episode of South Park on April Fools when they were supposed to reveal Cartman's father was a bigger shocker than the "shit" episode. And certainly belonged high on the list. The backlash was phenomenal.
