LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Ralph Edwards, the producer and host of the popular 1950s television shows "This is Your Life" and "Truth or Consequences," died on Wednesday at age 92, his publicity company said.
One of the most prolific radio and television producers of the 1940s, '50s and '60s, Edwards died in his sleep at his home in West Hollywood.
The Colorado native got his start in radio, and after moving to New York he quickly became one of its busiest announcers. In 1940, he created the landmark audience participation quiz show "Truth or Consequences" for radio, and brought it to television in 1950. It aired on radio and television for 38 consecutive years.
He created "This Is Your Life," for radio in the late 1940s, then for television in 1952. It continued to run in various forms for more than 30 years.
The biography-family reunion show profiled the lives of some of Hollywood's biggest stars, including actress Bette Davis, singer-actor Roy Rogers and crooner Nat "King" Cole.
The show was produced in several countries outside the United States including Britain.
Edwards won three Emmys and was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 1995.
Most of us didn't have the pleasure of seeing him during these shows, but he is pretty important in the history of television.

DVD Talk Special Edition
He had a great guest appearance on the "SUSPENSE" radio show.
Episode was called "Ghost Hunt".
He played a disc jockey who tries to prove a house isn't haunted. When his boss picks him up in the morning, Ralph has disappear, leaving only a tape recording of the events
that happen the previous night.
