Curb Your Enthusiasm - "The Seder" - 11/13/05

one of the better episodes of this pretty weak season, imo.. i'd probably put it #2 behind The Christ Nail.. loved larry's caution when the sex offender was trying to help him with the newspaper.. and the invitation to the sedar was great.. 'well, you know, you don't have to come..'

'what would jesus do?' rotfl

3 episodes to go.. here's hoping for a strong finish..

I agree, this episode gave me hope that maybe this season's dvd set won't be like the "Godfather III" sitting next to the others.

I thought the 'writing' was confusing...until Larry told Cheryl, I had no idea that HE knew it was the sex offender that he befriended.

He and the old couple across the street discussed seeing the flyer when he was helping them with their groceries.

uteotw 11-14-05 01:20 PM

I thought it was pretty awful, one of the weakest of an already weak season. The daughter's choking and Susie says, "Does anyone know CPR?" and the offender smiles and says "I do."--?? Just not funny to me...

sundog 11-14-05 01:22 PM

Funny episode.

But the last joke was a bit of a cheat. The girl needed the Heimlich maneuver, not 'mouth-to-mouth'.

Groucho 11-14-05 01:22 PM

uteotw: It wasn't CPR, it was "Mouth to Mouth." An important distinction.

sundog: I thought the same thing.

FYI, the sex offender was played by Daily Show correspondant Rob Corddry.

That's actually what I thought it was, but that didn't make any sense either, since (1) CPR IS "mouth to mouth" (alternated with the chest pumping) and (2) most people know you do the Heimlich Maneuver first, and then only if that doesn't work do you resort to CPR.

So, (1) It didn't really make sense + (2) even if it did it didn't strike me as the least bit funny. But that's just me.

movieking 11-14-05 03:25 PM

So who took Larry's papers? Mine was cut off I think.

 Just a really bad episode. I would hope that this was the low point of the season, but there are still three shows left with a chance to be worse ;)

I don't think we ever found out. Just that it wasn't the doctor.

well, larry was being extra cautious with this guy.. plus they made it clear in the beginning that the sex offender was bald, which to me was the giveaway..

How did it give away that it was not the doctor? I thought his paper was there before the DVR cut off.

And they discussed his appearance/photo from the flyer (bald guy).

Thought it was a decent episode, but certainly not as good as a few others have been this season...although, everything with Rob Corddry was hilarious.

We never actually found out it wasn't the doctor, just that the doctor wasn't making up an excuse to leave before Larry's neighbor woke up.

And they completley skipped over it too. I was expecting the old woman to wake up and come downstairs to Rob Corddry doing the heimlich on the little girl.

Otherwise very good episode up until the choking, quite a few laugh-out-loud moments.

My wife thought:

Spoiler:
that the fact that the Doctor was out performing surgery meant that he stayed up late, and probably slept in the next morning, so that's why Larry got the paper the next morning, because the doctor was sleeping and and didn't steal it. It's a stretch, but it works for me.

Also, anyone actually read the Newspaper article? It was just 1 paragraph, repeated over and over ;-)

I thought either this or the doctor stopped after being confronted, but I took the paper left alone as the doctor looked more guilty.

chanster 11-15-05 09:15 AM

Pretty good...preeety good.

coli 11-15-05 09:58 AM

It was a funny episode, especially where he asks the doctor about if he was having a trouble getting a date now that he was single? The doctor replied, "No, that isn't a problem cause I am a doctor!"

Jeff & Suzies brother in law, "Every 77 years we have a great president, Washington, Lincoln, Roosevelt, and G.W. Bush!" I am a conservative, but I thought that was pretty funny.

The sex offender was very funny, but I felt kind of weird laughing because of the subject matter.

There still has only been a couple of standout episodes this year though.

dcswirl 11-15-05 10:21 AM

Solid episode. Not great, but didn't suck either.
