My Name Is Earl or The Office (US) S2?
Earl seemed like a clear winner at the start of the season, while The Office S2 started off just okay I thought. They've both gotten better as the season's progressed, but The Office seems to have improved so much that I'm not sure Earl is that much better right now.
Which one is "must-see TV" for you? |
The Office, but Earl is close behind.
|
The Office gives me more laugh out loud moments, but Earl is just enjoyable to watch. Such different comedies it's hard to compare them.

Now what should happen is a cross-over: at one point in time, Earl made fun of Michael Scott's hair from season 1, so to cross Michael off the list, Earl works at the Office for a day. Think of the fun that could be had between Dwight and Randy! |
I like Earl, but I love The Office.
|
A cross-over could happen, since both shows take place in New Jersey.
But I voted "The Office." I like "Earl," but I like "The Office" more. My only gripe is that Earl comes first, and there's always a bit of overlap, so I'm chomping at the bit for The Office but have to sit through Earl first so I don't spoil myself. |
Both great shows, but I have to give "The Office" the edge.

I only watch Earl because it is the lead in to The Office, if it wasn't I probably wouldn't have watched more than the first episode.
|
I like Earl, but I like The Office a little better, especially since it's improved so much after last season.
|
The Office is good, but My Name Is Earl is great.

I've only seen the first 3 episodes of Earl, but The Office has had at least two classic episodes this season(Sexual Harassment and The Fight), so I'll give it the edge.
Now if I had to decide between Pam or Catalina, I'd go with Catalina. :) |

I never could exactly place "Earl"'s settng (rednecks are everywhere). Thanks. But doesn't "The Office" take place in Scranton, PA? yes it does and Office is way better |

But note, I'm a westerner. By our standards, Pennsylvania and New Jersey are small enough to be part of one state! |

I picked The Office, because I can't think of another show that was so well done that it took an entire community of internet people who wanted to piss all over the utter IDEA of the show and turned 95% of them around.
|
The Office. Both are great programs, but I wouldn't be that upset if Earl left the air. The Office, on the other hand, is something I look forward to every Tuesday.
|
I refuse to pick between the only two good comedies on NBC at the moment(not counting Scrubs).
|
I cant believe The Office is getting so much response here. Its not even a shell of the original BBC show. The jokes are weak, and Steve Carrell's character is not funny at all. The only limited entertainment comes from Rainn Wilson. Earl is completely fresh and new, and Jason Lee is great in every ep. Plus the supporting cast has much more funny moments. I just dont see The Office making it back next year, the ratings continue to drop, and they lose a lot of Earl's lead in.
|
I think this Office is actually coming close to surpassing the BBC version (heresy!). I like the characters better, and while it's dark, it's a little less bleak. I think Gervais was better as the boss, but Carrell is really coming into his own. Rainn Wilson is superb, and Jim is getting better all the time. And hottie Pam is no contest over Dawn, who I never particularly liked.
|
Earl, but I LOVE both shows.

However, between Earl and The Office, Earl gets the slight edge. And as sven said, these are the only two good comedies on NBC at the moment. |
I think we need to stop comparing the UK and US versions of the Office. The US version has rapidly evolved into something very different. Not to mention that the topic has been done to death and accomplishes nothing.
|
I keep trying to like The Office (US), but it just doesn't do it for me. I don't dislike it. It's fine. Carrell is funny, and some of the antics are humorous, but it's not really appointment television. I think I find it a little too over-the-top, and a lot of the jokes feel too forced. "Sweep the leg" was hilarious, though. I prefer the cleverness of Arrested Development or the subtlety of The Office (UK), and to the question at hand, I find myself enjoying Earl more from week to week.

The Office. I stopped watching Earl.
|
I just started watching The Office and I love it!
|
Tough call. However I Tivo both of these and I always want to watch The Office first (and I used to be an Office UK snob). I find it's a chore to get myself to watch Earl for some reason, but I always laugh and enjoy it when I do watch it.
|
The only thing that Earl has over The Office is a smokin hot sexy chick. It's funny, but not as funny as The Office.

I like both shows equally, and really hope NBC doesn't split them up. |
I voted for Earl, but I have a feeling The Office probably connects with more viewers than Earl. I grew up in the rural south so Earl's setting and characters are very familiary to me, whereas I have only worked in one office environment and it was a law office as opposed to a corporate one.
As far as The Office goes, I only watch it for Steve Carrell whom I think is hilarious in his role. IMO, I think they should take both of these shows and put them in the 8:00 to 9:00 PM slot on Thursdays after this season when Will and Grace is gone and Joey, mercifully, should be cancelled. |
I had to vote for Earl since I've never watched The Office
|
I watch both right now, but if they split these up and for some reason I could only see one, I'd pick Earl. If I missed one or the other, it wouldn't be a problem, as I am going to buy the season sets of both shows, but Earl wins for me.

But, I have to go with Earl. Originality wins out. I love the Office, but how many shows set in an office have we had? Hell this was based on another show. Earl on the other hand is original in its own right. How many shows feature a redneck trying to make his life better? Plus Jason Lee owns. |
I enjoy both quite a bit, but gave the nod to Earl -- the writing on that show continues to impress me with each episode.
|
• Michael Corvin • I agree on turning BBC fanboys around. All 6 episodes from the spring contained nothing but haters. I haven't heard a squeak this season. das |
pardon me das, BBC Office fanboys. :)
|
It's interesting that all of The Office (U.S.) haters are ones who still compare it unfavorably to the BBC version. I love the BBC version too, but the U.S. version has really come into its own since the Spring run. And although Steve Carrell's Michael Scott, while funny, can't hold a candle to Ricky Gervais's David Brent, the rest of the U.S. cast equals or even surpasses the original version's cast. (Even Rainn Wilson, who's Dwight Schrute character has greatly improved this Fall and is now at least as good as Mackenzie Crook's Gareth character in the original, if not better.)
(And whoever said earlier Ricky Gervais's David Brent was never given a heart in the original must have never seen the Christmas Special that wrapped up the BBC show, because that was very sympathetic to his character.) |
Had ta go with both.
Greatest one hour/two show pairing of late. And my vote would be Pam. Randy's "dibs" gal would be a great romp, but Pam is a real "Significant Other" candidate. (wife, long term, etc) |
Earl by far for me. I really don't care for the "let's see how uncomfortable we can make the audience" comedies.
