Catching OTA HD
Do I need some special antenna to catch over the air HD signal?
CTV (in canada) is brodcasting some shows in HD. How do I get it? |
No. Most standard TV antenna will be able to "catch OTA HD" as long as you are in range.
Might I suggest the Silver Sensor. That's got good reviews if you are in range. |
I picked up an indoor amplified radio shack antenna for about $40 and pretty much pick up everything in the area with no problem. I tried bunny ears but the signal is just too weak.
|
I use a UHF double-bowtie antenna. Works like a charm.

My silver sensor works great except it doesn not pick up NBC HD.. unless I move it around a little and have it hanging in the middle of the room!
NBC here is on VHF Or UHF, the opposite to all the other channels |
thanks for the info ..
lets say i get an antenna ... plug it in the tv like I would a regular antenna .. aim the thing .. scan for channels.. how does the tv switch to the HD stream. i mean, like you see shows that say ..broadcasted in HD as well. do i do something to get that stream instead of the regular tv? |
The standard def channel would show as "5" (as example, I don't know what actual channels you have) and the HD channel would show as "5-1".

I have a Radio Shack roof top antenna that's about 6ft tall. I guess it's a lot bigger than I really need for being that close. |
