What Will Be This Years Surprise / Disappointment?

Surprise = Surface.
Disappointment = Reunion.

Surface is slowly gaining momentum. I don't think it will be a "sleeper hit", but it could make it to second season if the numbers can rise. Many people I have talked to have never even heard of the show. Hopefully word of mouth will spread.

Reunion is this years Jack & Bobby. A premise that looks better as presentation to network execs than it does as a TV series. Clever in premise, weak in execution. While I have to say Jack & Bobby redeemed itself in the second half of the season. I don't believe reunion will get the chance (4 more episodes were ordered).

I came in with low expectations for almost everything, except for Prison Break. I like it, but I think it could have been far better, so that gets my vote for disappointment.

Surprise? I'll have to wait on that. I want to see some more episodes of Earl, C-in-C, and Just Legal before I make a call there.

So far, Supernatural is by far the biggest surprise for me. I really really like it. Threshold is okay, but I would have preferred Karen Sisco instead

Disappointments have been Prison Break, Surface, and Invasion (I'm giving that one one more episode.)

I second Supernatural. It's not profoundly great, but it's entertaining.

Comparing Reunion and Jack & Bobby is ridiculous, though.

Earl is great, but I was expecting it to be good. Surface is a surprise to me. I'm really enjoying it so far. It's the only new drama this year I'm keeping up with so far.

Biggest surprise? Surface-- had no expectations of this one and was surprisingly entertained.

Biggest disappointment? Threshold for a wasted cast, Reunion for a wasted premise

"Comparing Reunion and Jack & Bobby is ridiculous, though."

How so? Looking back over the lives of young people as they grow into adults is a fairly unique concept for serial television shows. Both have (had) poor rating and an interesting premise. Finding out who dies and how. I think they share a lot of similarities.

The cast for Jack & Bobby was for the most part great ... Not so with Reunion. I didn't say they were identical ;-P The second part of Jack & Bobby's only season, when they shifted focus from Grace to Jack & Bobby was amazing. But it was too late. The first half was not nearly as compelling and I think is partially responsible for its demise. Both are (were) ill-fated shows.

Keep in mind ... I have the final episode of Jack & Bobby on my PVR and have watched it probably 4 times. It is the single best hour of television I have ever watched.

Bones was a huge disappointment for me...not sure how it's doing in the ratings though - but just quality-wise it was a huge letdown.

My Name Is Earl was the real pleasant surprise...but it fell off a bit in the ratings last week...hopefully it won't fall off any more this week.

Definitely Prison Break for me. Seemed like it would be awful but I really like it.

I agree with Draven on these surprises. I also miss Karen Sisco.

My biggest Disapointment is Bones. I was so excited, but then it was just.so.bad.

Surprise: Amazing Race, Family Edition

Disappointments: Invasion, Threshold, Reunion (yet for some reason I'm still watching all three. Invasion is the closest to getting the axe).

I'm surprised on how much I like Supernatural and My Name is Earl.

My disappointments are how truly awful Reunion is and how boring the shows Surface/Threshold and Invasion are.

Surprise: Prison Break

Not so surprise - My Name is Earl, Jason Lee oozes charisma & the idea was solid. I was only worried about the execution.

Those are the only two new shows I've watched, although Threshold and Invasion are sitting on the DVR. With all the negativity on the forum about them, I may skip 'em both altogether.
