The Amazing Race 8 - Family Edition - 9/27/05 2 Hour Premiere

THE AMAZING RACE (9/27; 2 HR.; SEASON PREMIERE)
Air Date: 9/27/05 (TUESDAY)
Time Slot: 9:00 PM-11:00 PM EST on CBS
Episode Title: "Go Mommy Go! We Can Beat Them!"

Spoiler:
The picturesque New York skyline emerges as water taxis speed the 10 families across the New York Harbor as they ready themselves for a high-energy race through Manhattan. Fireworks begin immediately as one family bickers about getting lost in the crowded streets while another team complains of a leg injury. After completing their first task, families travel to Pennsylvania where they must paddle a rowboat across the Delaware River, the same place where George Washington famously crossed the Delaware during the Revolutionary War. At the detour, families choose between building a miniature working water mill or pulling a traditional Amish buggy along a 1.5-mile course. One family has a big scare as their buggy nearly runs over a team member, while another team becomes exhausted pushing their buggy through the countryside.

Have to admit, I'm a little disappointed at the change in format for this season. I wish they'd just get back to the basics without so many gimmicks, but of course I'll still watch expecting the best.

I'll watch because I love this show, but I don't have high hopes this will be as good.

Anybody know if they're doing the Survivor thing and having Sep-Dec run of the show and another in Jan or Feb? Like they did last year?

I think it is safe to make that assumption.

It's been rumored (maybe confirmed) that:
Spoiler:
This race will be exclusively within North America, because of the size of the teams and the logistics of taking kids around. I hope its not true, but its very understandable.

It'll be interesting to see if the airports will play as big a role then, since they shouldn't have to use the major international airports as much. Or maybe I'm just trying to delude myself.

As long as they're not the Token-Black family, I'm cool with it.

Since it looks like there's only 2 little kids (from the Blacks and the Gaghans) on the ten teams, hopefully they'll expand the race to go outside of the continental United States. I could just rent an RV and drive around if I wanted to see a cross county trip! BTW aren't there normally eleven teams?

From the spoilers above I wonder...

Spoiler:

the promo has shots of tower bridge in london, I know it doesn't involve any of the family's and is just a pic of it.

And wrt to the race, I'll watch it for sure, and am not as worried about it anymore when I saw that really there are only 2 familys with kids.

Based on the photos above, it appears I'll be rooting for The Bransens.

I'm rooting for the Gaghans ("Team Marathon") (the family with the 9-year-old girl).

But I want the Bransens ("Team Hottie") to make it as long as possible (dad and three daughters).

Is this the girl that falls asleep from exhaustion in the car in the promo they've been running? Don't know why, but I laugh outloud everytime I see that clip. I'll be rooting for these guys too. But mostly because Mrs. Gaghan seems like a real MILF.

As the Bloodhound Gang might say, they are black like Barry White is, not white like Frank Black is.

That would be a plus, but one of the main reasons I watch TAR is
Spoiler:
to see the exotic locales (and not just the routine touristy stuff) which we will lose, the more they confine themselves to one continent or hemisphere.

Seems like a safe bet to say most of the internet fans are going to be bored with this version. I can only hope there is no attractive underage girl a stone's throw away from legal, having to listen to all the online pervs could great really old as well

Mrs Paolo

j/k
Actually some of these teams seem to have a somewhat unfair advantage. Team Linz look like they're all in decent shape and the beforementioned Team Paolo, not so much.

Here's hoping I'm wrong, and this is not the most annoying TAR ever.

Well, the good news is that hopefully won't get too many of the typical "should we stay together" storylines.

"We've been father and son off-and-on for about 15 years. We're doing The Amazing Race to see if it's going to work out."

That's good news? The petty bickering is one of my favorite parts of the race. Hopefully, we'll see some mom and dads shouting at each other in front of the kiddies.
