Three Wishes: Sonora, CA (9/23)

Not as bad of a tear jerker as I thought.

Did anyone one else catch this?

In this episode:

Spoiler:
Wish #1 - A little girl named Abbey was disfigured in a car accident where her father was driving and her mother (a 911 operator) unknowing took the call. A very athletic little girl, she was left with holes in the plating of her skull and an "S" shaped nose and her eyes on different planes of her face.

While at the hospital at UC Davis, the team (lead by the guy from gal from "Trading Spaces: Boys v. Girls") built her a playhouse complete with and endless pool and rehab stuff (her father happens to be a physical therapist). Her friends from school came and helped decorate parts of the house.

In the end, the doctors said she was a candidate for the surgery and did it the next week. Zoom ahead 5 months and it shows Abbey post surgery looking more normal and going to school without the helmet.

They held a carnival to raise funds to wipe-out the pile of bills the family had.

Wish #2 - A boy named Bobby talked about his step-dad Tim (a cop) stepped in after his father died and he said that in the midst of financial difficulty, he sold his new truck to help make ends meet. So this team (headed by the blonde guy from "Clean Sweep") talked to Ford and gave him a Ford F-350, tickets to the Giants game (where he threw a horrible first pitch that night) and then Amy Grant chased down the city judge to grant Bobby's real wish... adoption by Tim. This was done on stage at the carnival mentioned above. Now before you think this was weird... the step-dad Tim, filed the paperwork months ago, Amy just helped them through the red tape.

Wish #3 - The cheerleaders from Sonora High School asked Carter (from "Trading Spaces"... team leader #3) for a new football field since the old field is always muddy and people get hurt. They mentioned that it was the wish of their coach. She couldn't do it herself, she is currently being treated for lukemia.

So Carter hopped a plane to Canada where he talked to the CEO of some astro-turf like place and asked them to donate the million dollar field. Needless to say, they got their field.

... and then on the side, they got the local playhouse a new Yamaha keyboard, took a lady with 7 adopted kids to the movies for the afternoon, got a local florist to donate flowers for a lady's wedding and something else I can't remember.

Looks like the same production as the Extreme Home Makeover folks... but was pretty good for a quiet Friday night of good family television.
