Watched the first episode, and never planned to watch anymore. Good decision to cancel; horrible decision to air in the first place.

I kinda liked it, Adam Goldberg was funny... oh well, one less show I need to worry about DVR'ing

movieking 09-23-05 06:48 AM

I do like Adam Goldberg too, but he is a very specific taste. He was great as Eddie on Friends, but I don't think that I would buy him as a lawyer.

Snowmaker 09-23-05 06:53 AM

Glad I didn't give it a second try this week. The loss of it doesn't bother me as much.

And why is this cancelled and NOT the War At Home?

The latest EW mentions how War At Home has been capturing most of the audience from lead-in The Simpsons...

Charlie Goose 09-23-05 08:28 AM

When I first saw the previews for this a month or so ago, I was planning on watching. Never got around to it, and now it's too late. Oh well.

Red Dog 09-23-05 08:39 AM

I knew this would be an early casualty, so I never bothered to watch. All the signs were there: FOX + Timeslot + sounded like it sucked.

Cusm 09-23-05 09:26 AM

I actually enjoyed this one, while that POS War at Home has already been deleted from my season pass. Oh well one less show for the wife to complain about me watching.

Geofferson 09-23-05 09:30 AM

I expected it to get canned...maybe not quite this fast though.

Should have bet it. Bodog offered odds on the first show to get cancelled. Not a good payout on Head Cases - it was one of the favorites.

So true. I wanted to put Just Legal on my DVR to see if it was any good (I'm such a late night Nash Bridges fiend  ), but Prison Break and 2.5 men can't be ignored. Until we get triple/quadruple tuners, the networks are going to have to get smarter about time slots.

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) The 2005-06 TV season, which is officially less than a week old, has claimed its first victim: FOX's legal drama "Head Cases."

FOX has pulled the show after just two airings, saying it has "had its last air date." The series, which starred Chris O'Donnell and Adam Goldberg as mismatched lawyers whose only common bond was time in a mental institution, got drilled in the ratings Wednesday (Sept. 21), primarily by ABC's "Lost" but also by "America's Next Top Model."

In its place, FOX will air original episodes of "Nanny 911" for the next two weeks. The night will then be given over to coverage of the baseball playoffs and World Series for the rest of October; "Trading Spouses" will take up residence in the 9 p.m. ET spot starting Nov. 2.

"Head Cases" got little support from critics and debuted to mediocre ratings, drawing 6.2 million viewers on Sept. 14 -- five days before the Nielsen-sanctioned start of the season. This week, facing "Lost," "Top Model" and the premiere of "E-Ring" on NBC, it lost nearly half its premiere audience and drew a weak 1.3 rating among adults 18-49, FOX's and advertisers' favorite demographic.

Six episodes of "Head Cases" have been shot, but given the network's "last air date" pronouncement, it's unlikely the remaining four will make it on the air.

The season's first hook came much faster than it did last year. NBC's "Hawaii" was the first show pulled in fall 2004, but it lasted six episodes before getting yanked in mid-October.
"Head Cases" wasn't great, but "Nanny 911" and "Trading Spouses"? That's how FOX is going to beat "Lost"?

Wait, this was a drama? Then why did FOX advertise it as a comedy?

I actually think that is kind of smart. All five other networks are airing dramas in that slot. I'm sure there is an audience for light-hearted reality fluff at that time.

They are never going to beat "Lost" but there are plenty of viewers out there who just don't want to be invested in a weekly story arc.

I'm guessing that at this point the objective is to fill the time slot with programming that's as cheap as possible. They're going to lose anyway, so why spend more than they have to ... maybe the Indian-head test pattern will make an appearance later on ...

mdc3000 09-23-05 06:33 PM

I'm surprised Fox pulled the trigger so fast...I'm not upset about Head Cases, but i'm starting to worry about Arrested Development and Kitchen Confidential....

I think their strategy is called "Biding time until American Idol returns".

They should move these to Head Cases' slot. I think these comedies would do better in the non-family hour anyway.

DRG 09-23-05 09:33 PM

I guess we'll never see this now...

I'm disappointed that Adam Goldberg is out of a job. I was willing to continue giving it a chance. I thought it had potential to be a pretty funny show.
