If all of the reviews are right, tonight will be the first and last episode that I'll watch.

I have no desire to watch this. I can only watch one mediocre sea based alien show at a time.

I don't think that you are the only one feeling this way thus the reason why nobody started a thread until I did.

The reviews have been unkind to the point of being almost "nasty".

Wow. I just scanned those reviews. I have it set to record, but I may just delete it and not bother unless I have some extra time tonight.

Well, I'm a sucker for sea monster crap, so I'll watch. Tho I may have to see it re-air on Sci-fi so I can watch Alyson Hannigan.

So what is the other sea-based alien show on TV now? Are you talking about Threshold?

I was considering watching this, but given the reviews and the fact the lead actress is weirdly unattractive IMO (damn near fugly in some pics), I may pass.

Yeah. It was sort of a half-assed joke. I know it's not about sea aliens, but rather that was the setup for the show.

"do you have anything on radar?"
no bimbo, radar is for above the sea, we use hydophones and sonar underwater. where'd you say you got your doctorate?

Watching this as I type and so far...the show has really kept my attention. I don't know where the bad reviews are coming from, this isn't BONES bad. The show is pretty suspenseful for a series starter. I didn't find any of the actresses "fugly," I guess I'll have to watch Medium to find that.

I'll give it another viewing next week, it may not sustain the initial great quality though.

It sucks IMO. I watched about the first 40 mins and shut if off.
And someone should have told the fugly chick how to pronounce Chouest.

What it lacks in intellect it makes up in suspense.

The show has a feeling of Jaws meets Close Encounters meets ...

A bad Sci-Fi Channel movie :-(

But it really isn't as bad as I expected. Kind of fun. I will watch it, while it lasts ;-P

You people have been harsh on shows latley. So far Surface has been really good so far. The special effects are really good too. Thats only six bad reviews. thats only six people who did like it "WOW. AICN gave "Bones" a 4 out 5. People are really over reacting saying it was so bad i turned it off 40 minutes into it. Compaining cause of the look of the creature. What does it have to be the cliched grey, big head and eyes?

I thought it was the best show so far this fall. I loved the ending. I am hooked. I was really suprised in this show. Alot better then Threshold. The look of this show felt alot more like a movie. I like that they are doing something different then space ships and the usually alien type of show.

The preview for the next episode looked AWESOME. This is a show that could get really really good. I feel sorry for people not giving it a chance because of 6 bad reviews.

I would have to give tonights episode a B+

I couldn't agree with you more. Upon conclusion of the entire episode, I was pleasantly surprised AND actually found myself looking forward to episode number two. A pretty good series premiere if you ask me.

Not quite sure who Lake Bell knows in the biz, but after getting her walking papers from Boston Legal, she landed a new gig on this show that was originally titled "Fathom", but is now known as "Surface". I guess her stint on "Miss Match" on NBC helped her.

Amazingly enough, the pilot showed a little more promise than "Threshold" did, but it appears to deal with a new form of aquatic life found on earth, and how it will impact the rest of humanity (perhaps I'm reaching) with a mystery angle and the hunt for this new creature found in the sea and on land. I'll stick around to see if they can sustain the suspense while also giving us some interesting extrapolation of "sea monster" in the here and now.

I wasn't as impressed as some of you were. Actually liked it less than I did Threshold. Not giving up on it (especially since it is going to be played on Sci Fi all season).

I was looking forward to this because its done by the same people who brought us G vs E and I loved that show. But this doesn't look so good. I'll give it a few more episodes though.

Well I found a time when it will play on Sci Fi (Fri 5-6) when it will not conflict with anything I'm recording, so i'll check out the pilot there and then decide what I think. After reading those reviews on AICN, I reminded myself that I don't listen to AICN for anything, and that I should check it out for myself

Invasion. Which isn't on yet but the commercials for it show many scenes taking place in the water.

I really enjoyed this. It does have an almost Spielbergian sense of suspense & wonder. It even looks like it could go off into E.T. territory from the previews. I'm just hoping they stay focused on the characters and don't get derailed by the government conspiricy angle. We've seen that too many times.

If they build a Center & invite Billy Campbell as a guest star to run it, this show is dead to me.
