Better than last week, in my opinion, but still pretty uneven. Since this thread will no doubt turn into another Simpsons vs Family Guy thread, I preferred Family Guy once again.

Some genuinely funny jokes, I really liked the "Read the patent number bitch" line.

I'm not Dr Nick.
I'm Dr. Octopus!

Okay, that was funny.

But uneven is a very good word for this season so far.

Plus, Lisa has spent 15 years being logical and scientific; this aspect of her personality doesn't seem quite right.

Better than average for recent seasons, I'd say. Was Homer's bleeped out curse a first for this series?

I thought this episode was horrible. The simpsons all seemed out of character except lisa. It seems more and more each season like the simpsons is trying to be family guy.

Thinkingback, I actually enjoyed King of the Hill better. It was a more solid, consistent episode; had a few wacky parts [the duel of the metal detectors, Joseph being an idiot], but was more of a 'show' with a story; whereas tonights Simpsons seemed like it was a very basic episode, with a bunch of not very funny sight-gags and one-shot appearances that don't really serve much purpose.
I normally don't watch KotH, it always struck me as amateur due to the animation, but I enjoyed tonight's.

Shame they're talking like this season will be the last...

Is it just me, or most of the "referencesjokes" more timely than timeless? The Liminy Snicket reference from last weeks episode and the Spiderman reference from this weeks....Even 15 years ago, the series was quoting films 20 to 30 years its senior.

Nope. In one of the Treehouse of Horror episodes, they had a segment where they were on the Jerry Springer show, and Marge had a bleeped out curse word.

Sadly, that was what I found to be the funniest of last night's episode. I hope these first two episodes are not a sign of what is to come this season (although I didn't expect it to be on par with last season).

Also if I remember correctly, on the "Behind the Laughter" episode, Marge said "Either *bleep* or get off the pot" which the narrator repeated.

I thought this ep had it's moments. For some reason, the exchange between Bart and Lisa about "if Homer rolls over on you, you're dead", "it's okay, Mom taught me how to make a barricade of pillows" totally cracked me up.

I watched last weeks and this week's episode last night. Last week's ep is contending for my vote as least funniest episode ever (I'm pretty sure someone thought of a funny title and then they decided to create an episode around it). Last night's was at least respectable and the Dr. Nick stuff was pretty funny as was Homer's "snuggle monster" talk. One thing I did notice is that this is the first time in recent memory where the story line seemed to follow the old pattern of something different happening in the first 3 minutes that sets the plot for the entire episode. Normally something silly happens (homer loses a bet) which then causes wild tangents (mafia films porn film... marge hangs out with manatee dude) that make me think the writers need more ritalin.

I can't help but think that this story was intended for the Halloween show, but the story was too long so they split it out on its own episode.

Not a bad episode... Better then last week, I agree.

Homer: You know Bart's racecar bed?
Lisa: yeah
Homer: The breaks are shot.
Bart: Ow... ow... ow.. ow...

I admit I was in an easily humored mood when I watched it.

Lisa episodes always seem to lack the funny, IMHO.

I was about to post the same. Usually the Flanders/Itchy & Scratchy/Lenny & Karl/Groundskeeper Willy side jokes prop up the Lisa episodes for me. But those usual sure-hits were all substandard this episode for some reason. Gravedigger Billy was interesting, and the bell/hand thing was funny. I'd say about 10 - 20% hit the mark, well below average.

It wasn't perfect, but I enjoyed it. Looks like we'll be getting two Halloween episodes this year.

Poor Willy was about to be buried alive and they didn't show the aftermath. And it never showed who the guy with the nice watch was. I'm thinking the cousin "Gravedigger Billy" will assume Willy's identity throughout this season until its revealed what really happened to Willy during the season finale and what sinister plans the evil cousin has up his sleeve...which will be a 2-parter that carries over through next season much like "Who Shot Mr. Burns" back in 1995. It could happen.

Followed by Bart's bed crashing into Marge and Homer's room and Homer yelling "LEARN TO DRIVE!"

THAT car-bed stuff was funny.

At least I can say that next weeks episode "Milhouse of Sand and Fog" is pretty good. (I received a dvd from fox with the first two episodes on them and that was supposed to be number two)
