Bones - Series Premiere "Pilot" - 9/13

Stars: Emily Deschanel as Dr. Temperance Brennan, David Boreanaz as Special Agent Seeley Booth
Writer: Hart Hanson
Director: Greg Yaitanes
Production Code: BON-101
Original Airdate: 9/13/05

Spoiler:
Based on the real-life experiences and best-selling works of novelist-forensic anthropologist Kathy Reichs who solves crimes using evidence supplied by skeletal remains. The show follows Dr. Temperance Brennan, a bones specialist, doing her best to solve crimes for the FBI and Homeland security. In the pilot, Dr. Temperance is met with the task of uncovering the identity of a set of bones, which have been deliberately hidden in a lake. However, after identifying the bones, imprisoning the murderer turns out to be a politically sticky business.

Special Agent Seely Booth, Bones' 'friend' bails her out of police custody, and she deduces the fact that it was a set up to get her to talk to him. Although nothing is said on the matter, it could be seen that the two may have had some relationship history, but this is just an assumption.

Seely informs Bones of a peculiar set of bones found at the bottom of a lake in a graveyard. After viewing the bones (via an underwater camera), Bones declares that it is, in fact, a murder scene.

Anyone else excited for this one?

I am going to give it a chance and watch it tonight since it has Angel in it, and its a lead in to House, but I'd say its pretty much dead in the water. It looks pretty awful.

I saw the pilot a while back (temp version that even featured music from two film scores I have!) and the real appeal of this show are the leads, and I'll gladly watch David Boreanaz in anything.

Will check this one out just because...

it's new while most everything else is repeats;
I need a break from my lost dvd marathon;
just something different.

I’ll tune in just to see Zooey’s big sister, and David doesn’t hurt. It’ll be interesting to see him as someone other than Angel.

David B. in a role where he can actually go into sunlight, that's a first!...I'll give it an episode or two as I am a huge Buffy/Angel fan..though don't expect much from it....really not into series where every show is a self-contained 42 minutes.

I am not expecting much from this either. I'll probably tape it and watch it tomorrow. I can't believe how crowded some of the nights are now with these new shows, although based on history, most aren't worth watching.

I haven't read anything by Kathy Reichs, however Iris Johansen has a series of similar books with Eve Duncan as the main character, and I have read some of those.

Ughh...10 minutes and I'm out, guys. This is quite possibly the corniest crime-drama I've seen on TV in ages. I was looking forward to this too...go figure.

Oh my god. Same exact thing. I lasted 10 minutes and I had to turn the channel. Horrible acting, writing, dialogue, music, etc....

I was going to give it until the end of the first episode but there is nothing here but crap.

It's a trainwreck and I can't stop watching.

Everything about it annoys me. The dialogue is too rehearsed. The music is so sappy. The characters at this point are like mannequins.

At least the two leads have chemistry.

The temp music was replaced from the advance version I saw, a few scenes were edited down, and the climax near the end was extended to include Boreanaz. Other than that, nothing severely different between them, and my opinion remains unchanged.

Two fairly interesting leads with good chemistry, but at best, an utterly average pilot episode. The Boreanaz fanclub, and those who enjoy the books, may tune in and keep ratings afloat for a bit. Otherwise, I don't see this being a breakout in any sense of the word.

Very mediocre at best, with some decent interaction between Deschanel and Boreanaz. The scientist "group" was utterly annoying and poorly acted, most notably the female scientist who was "patenting" the hologram program. Weak pilot, cant decide if they are trying to be silly, campy, or if they really truly meant this to be a serious crime/drama/action series. May watch another ep to give it an honest go, but not looking forward to it...

It's an ok show. But there is nothing else on at this time slot so I might continue to tune in.

Uh, you could always read a book. I watched the entire episode and can't think of a single good thing to say about it. Poor DB. From Angel to this shit.

This how was crap. My wife loves DB, and she could not even finish this episode. I could see where it could get better. I just don't think it will happen. Nice to see Adm. Chedwiggen working again. All though probably not for long. The only way I see this lasting is if the Angel/Buffy fans keep this going until they are able to fix this.

I thought it was ok. Agree DB and Emily Deschanel work well together but I can see the premise getting stale rather quickly.

same here but then they can always be like some other medical shows like say Crossing Jordan and move in a different direction then just: find bones, find issues, solve case.

being a huge buffy/angel show fan I thought it was funny that my mind still twisted the show a little bit towards that theme at the start, even when I KNOW it's not that sort of show. So first off the sunlight thing and when they find the bones in the pond my first thought was "Oh what evil bad thing did that?" oh wait, that's right, wrong show, duh. heh

Over all I really liked it more then I though I would even if it was a little cheese over all. I still stick it it being my choice for "first show canned" as talked about in that other thread some where around here but over all I thought the two main stars had good chemistry. I'll tune in for more eps.. Maybe even for the whole season run............. of 5 eps..

Wow. This is terrible. C.S.I. evidence gathering montage? Check. Forced pop culture references? Check. Obnoxious group of "cool" staff members? Check. Overuse of not-so-clever monikers? maxpower nailed it. No one talks or acts like this. This show is just plain annoying.

Surprisingly, though, David Boreanaz is pretty good.

AICN: "It is the best new network series of the fall."

I didn't think it was that bad, but it's definitely uninspired filler. One of those shows where I wouldn't kick and scream if I had to watch it again, but it's not appointment television by any stretch. Maybe I'm just giving it a pass because I subjected myself to several episodes of Medical Investigation a few days ago.

And the ending? They were practically having a polite conversation over the pros and cons of destroying evidence. I think they filmed the the actors doing a walk through of the lines and spliced it into the actual show.

These days, if AICN says it's "the best new network series of the fall", I can be pretty certain it's going to blow chunks.
