My Name Is Earl

DRG 09-07-05 05:27 PM

Come on people, this is a no-brainer.

Killer Instincts is a new Fox show on Friday night.

If that doesn't scream "cancelled" I don't know what does.

garmonbozia 09-07-05 05:41 PM

I think Close To Home is definitely a contender... although with its late start, I doubt it will be first... but it's definitely a possibility for "after the least number of episodes aired"

Tracer Bullet 09-07-05 06:52 PM

My money's on Ghost Whisperer.

I don't know about that. The previews seem to show promise. It sort of reminds me of Raising Arizona for whatever reason.

every news article about nbc and their ratings tanking talks about "my name is earl" and this show getting great reviews from critics and focus groups and how NBC has high hopes for it. NBC is pretty desperate for a hit comedy so I'll bet they stick with this show for a while though the time slot is tough and the lead in is a sophomore reality show. I have a feeling it will be similar in ratings to Scrubs and The Office but have hardcore fans and critical support.
The clips are amusing so I may tape it but it is going up against House, MD and Amazing Race so I think it will be lost in the shuffle.

I'll agree with this. It even had a name change from "The Gate" so that is three strikes against it 1). Name change 2). Airing on Fox 3). Airing on Fridays

wow! I must have missed that. I thought DW had some amazing buzz as did Lost and the timeslots were not as tough as for other shows. Just goes to show, you can't always say which shows will do well until they actually air.

1 word: "Freddie"

Just Legal

That's what you get for bumping Everwood to Thursday!

Sadly, I seem to spend many a Friday night watching exactly such videos. Though admittedly, in the ones I watch they often go about it in a somewhat peculiar fashion. In fact, in many of them, they have two women trying or sometimes even a whole group of women, with nary a man in sight.

DeadLamb 09-08-05 01:46 AM

Ahhh so tore on this..

my top three "doomed" shows are:
Ghost Whisperer (CBS)
Inconceivable (NBC)
Bones (Fox)

Ghost Whisperer will be canned being even as much as I think JLH is a cute chick that show just sounds soooooo brutally bad with a theme that is a yawn fest.

NBC being in 4th will be quick to can any show not helping them dig there way out and I see no market for Inconceivable. Guys don't want to watch a show that has anything at all to do with babies and I'm not sure women want to watch a show about not being able to have a baby. Sep NBC does not tend to be that quick to dump shows so this should last longer then.............

Bones!!.. Any show on FOX might as well be though of as 1/2 canceled midway into the pilot being shown. David is only really know by Buffy/Angel fans etc so no sure he is a big enough "hook" to drawn in viewers. The girl who co-stars, who ever she is, seems to be less then cute and the show set up is yet another CSI like crime show rip off.. All that, on fox equals Bones being the first show canned!!

Of course as always I will mentioned I was 100% sure Titanic would FLOP, huge..

I expect this to be a huge hit for NBC.

Fielding Mellish 09-08-05 02:01 PM

Night Stalker.

And Darren McGavin will be the first to piss on its grave.

Shannon Nutt 09-08-05 03:34 PM

I too shall go with GHOST WHISPERER. Heck, if anyone at CBS has any brains, it might be the first show to get cancelled BEFORE it premeires!

calhoun07 09-08-05 03:48 PM

What is sad that instead of Ghost Whisperer, CBS could have just given us a third season of Joan of Arcadia.

I spend most Friday nights doing that. Thank you, Adult Forum.

Let's not go there please. It wasn't O.C. enough..

I haven't seen any of the promos for My Name is Earl so I can't comment on that, but I just checked out the pilot episode and enjoyed it quite a bit. It does have the a goofy charm about it like Raising Arizona.

I think at worst, it may not be a big hit, but it should win enough of a loyal following to stay on for a while like Arrested Development.

Though, my taste in TV is horrible at predicting mainstream success. I hated both Law and Order and CSI, so go figure.

Lateralus 09-09-05 06:34 AM

I haven't heard of most of these shows! However, War at Home looks awful and I say 5 episodes.

I caught it over the weekend. Solid show. Very funny with endless possibilities. It is now a definite must see for me now. Nice to see another show without a laugh track. I think you are right though. Jason Lee has a charm about him/his character that might draw in some audience you normally wouldn't expect. I can't imagine it being the first show on the chopping block. I'd expect it to make it at least 'til Christmas if not a full season. This, Scrubs and the Office would make for one hell of a night of must see comedy.

Damn, Ethan Suplee has lost some weight. Good for him.

resinrats 09-12-05 11:01 AM

If there is one that Internet people love, that will be the first one. Then there will be years worth of hatred towards whatever channel canned it. None will accept the fact that nobody other than them actually liked it.

The show that will be a hit will most likely be considered the 'worst show in the history of the galaxy'.

Just my predictions.....

After watching War at Home, I vote War at Home.
