Anyone else find parts of 24 really really lame?

I just finished the 24 season 4 marathon from A&E. First time watching 24.
I'm not too picky about acting --cant remember any other show I've had problems with, but some of the actors on 24 just sucked :
Tony with his wispering trying to convey some emotion voice
Chloe & Eddgar with their wierd artificial way.

All the others were fine, the terrorist, the kid, the wife, the hot woman who took Tony hostage, but these 3, man I was constantly aware they were actors.
How the hell did they get casted ???
Or was it just that their lines were just plain lame ?

casted -eek-

Occasionally, mostly related to the whole concept of how much abuse people go through in that 24 hour span and just keep going.

Clearly you haven't seen the weekly 24 threads when these were originally airing.

Oh, the mountains of Iowa.

Yes, I do hate Edgar. Hopefully he comes back for Season 5 just to get horribly mauled and/or eaten by a mountain lion.

But Chloe and Tony??? I love them both. I could watch a new spinoff show featuring either of their characters.

Michael Corvin 09-07-05 08:02 AM

That's what you get for watching season 4 first. :) Chloe was much better in the 4th than the 3rd if that tells you something.

Edgar was new in season 4. He is essentially the Chloe of season 3.

Tony is in all 4 seasons and is great in all of them.

Lines play a big part in the 24 universe. A LOT of them are bad and I'm sure hard to convey with a serious tone.

boredsilly 09-07-05 08:06 AM

Oh god yes! 24 is one of the cheesiest shows on tv. That's half the fun.

The thing that gets me most is the random technology they pull out of their asses every year. I'm just waiting for Jack to pull out the Ultimate Nullifier this season to save the hour at the last possible minute. <joker>Where does CTU get those wonderful GUI's?</joker>

Well what year is it now on 24? It has to be somewhat in the future. Their technology is far beyond that of our primative ways. As long as their are no hover boards or jet packs, I am ok with it.

also, as you'll notice as season 1 marathon is in a week on a&e,
Spoiler:
she was the terroist who blew the plane up in the pilot

I disagree with the examples you used, but sure, some parts are weaker than others. Still, I think the show is BY FAR the best on tv on so many accounts.

That goddamn CTU phone ring drives me up the friggin' WALL. Especially since it's mostly internal calls, and the people talking to each other are usually looking at each other from 20 feet away.

Sends shivers up my spine just thinking about it...

Autotelik 09-07-05 05:29 PM

Well, yes. There are areas that make me say "I can't believe they let that happen" and there are plenty of plot holes, and annoying characters. But part of the reason why I'm so glued to it is the over-the-top scenarios and watching the consequences of these crazy terrorist plots. Detonation of a nuclear device, bioterrorism, assassinating the pres..... these just keep me coming back to see what the fallout is. So far, it seems like every scenario can actually happen except
Spoiler:
killing Jack Bauer or killing the president
.

There's no time.

tasha99 09-07-05 05:39 PM

Three MidEastern Countries, or whatever they called it.

And lots more. The first 12 episodes were by far the best of 24 so far, and somewhere around 13, it kind of jumped the shark.

Legolas 09-07-05 05:53 PM

Lots of season four was really really lame. Season four was like a parody of itself.

CRM114 09-07-05 08:28 PM

I only watched the first two seasons on DVD so far. Every scene with Elisha Cuthbert was painful and had nothing to do with anything. (OK, there's one scene after she takes a shower at the bomb shelter dude's place...that was alright. )

I saw some episodes on the original airings and thought they were OK for the genre (which I am typically not a fan of). Then I got a chance to watch the first couple seasons on DVD, and boy do the annoying things start jumping out at you - especially the level of mental retardation of Jack's daughter. This show holds up better in small doses, even though I usually don't like cliffhangers.

Michael Corvin 09-07-05 10:41 PM

You don't like cliffhangers and you are watching 24? rotfl

crankyman 09-07-05 10:44 PM

my favorite actor from any 24 season:

the mountain lion.

Wow, I think that's the saddest thing I've ever read. You just made baby Jesus cry.

I thought the show was pretty good all around season 1, but it's just become absolutely terrible over time. I tried watching the beginning of season 4 and I couldn't get through a single episode. I literally found every single line of dialogue laughable. I know people will think I'm exaggerating, but I'm completely serious. Between the acting, directing, and writing I wanted to laugh at ever single line, but it was the worst kind of laughter. It was like laughter out of pain.

Everybody involved in the show is responsible for how bad the show has become, but I will say whoever cast Chloe is a total idiot. I love Mary Lynn as a comedic actress, but I can't see her doing anything dramatic and 24 doesn't have a single second of intentional comedy.

I did, on DVD. When the cliffhanger suspense lasts all of 20 seconds my heart can take it without exploding.

RoboDad 09-08-05 01:31 AM

Chloe rocks!

Ugh. I jumped off the 24 bandwagon after episode 17 season 1. I tried a couple more eps after that, but it's the one that killed the show for me.
