"Intervention" on A&E - anyone else addicted?

My favorite show on TV right now, Sundays at 10PM. C'mon, someone else here has got to share my love....Great programming.

saoirse 09-04-05 12:33 AM

Yes I love it. It's wonderful.

TruGator 09-04-05 06:21 AM

I watch it every week. Great show.

Groucho 09-04-05 10:42 AM

What is this? Do they film alcoholic interventions or something?

They have two "cases" every week who agree to do a documentary about addiction, they don't know an intervention is about to take place sometime during the filming. The people on the show are not just alcoholics. I've seen this one crazy girl who was a cutter, they have a lot of drug addicts, last week they had an older guy who was addicted to pain killers. Basically for the first half of the show they show the two people and how bad their addiction is and the second half shows some preparation for the intervention, then it goes down in the end and they accept help or don't.

I just looked at Yahoo TV listings and it looks like Intervention isn't coming on tonight because of a 24 marathon or something. Damnit.

Groucho 09-04-05 11:05 AM

Sounds interesting...thanks!

illini420 09-04-05 03:15 PM

Yes, this show is great. Been watching it with friends since it started. The best episodes are the one with the girl who is a cutter and the one with the boy genius with the gambling addiction.

TruGator 09-04-05 04:19 PM

The next episode sounds pretty good:

Rachel and Tommy Update (#11).
Sunday, September 11 10:00PM ET/PT

Friends and family gather to save two addicts -- Rachel, once a beautiful child in an upper-middle class family who has turned to heroin and prostitution, and Tommy, who quit his executive job and sold his Lexus, retirement plan, and million-dollar condo to sustain his cocaine habit.

PJsig08 09-04-05 07:42 PM

Seen that one. The cocaine guy is crazy, you gotta watch it.

The prodigy gambler is by far the best one, and the follow up episode on him. Talk about a guy hittin' the bottom and still sinking....

illini420 09-04-05 07:55 PM

I posted my favorite shows above in post #7, but the one that shocked me the most was the lady that was addicted to beer. I never imagined someone could consitently drink so much beer (and I went to my share of parties in college). I mean she'd drink at home when she got up, on the ride to work, stop at the grocery store a few times a day for more beer, during her breaks at work (until she'd throw up in the work bathroom), then drink more when she got home. wow.

PJsig08 09-04-05 10:46 PM

This coming from illni420. :) Never saw the one with the female alcoholic, but did see the guy from Huntington Beach who would drink non-stop as well and travel to Berkeley, drinking pretty much all day. That guy was fuuucked up.

Yeah, the guy who walked out of the door of the treatment facility, RIGHT INTO A STORE TO BUY BEER.

I love this show because it makes me feel so much better about my life...

Funny stuff. Yeah, I saw that one too, but I agree with some of the other posters, makes me feel better about my life.

This episode it titled Cristine and Kelly P. and will air on 9/12. The episode also includes a segment on an anorexic woman with a 3-year old who imitates her mother's anorexic behavior. That was really messed up.

I was watching A&E tonight and saw a commercial for the next episode on 10/2. I work with Michael - I was floored when I saw the commercial and there he was..........whoa.

So what's he like? Did you know he had/has an addiction?

C_Fletch 09-27-05 08:40 PM

"So what's he like? Did you know he had/has an addiction?"

He seems like a amiable, laid back kind of guy. Now that I know he had an addiction to pot and booze I see things but who knows if that's just me jumping to conclusions. He's done a few strange things since I've been working with him but nothing that would point to an addiction. Overall though he's a nice guy. I'm not one to judge anyone anyway putting aside the fact that I've yet to meet anyone without some type of addiction. I've heard what happened with the actual intervention but I don't want to spoil it for anyone else.

cynthia 09-28-05 08:16 AM

This is a really great show. I've seen all the episodes so far.

Norm de Plume 09-28-05 08:19 PM

Has it not been in reruns for several months?

Looks like I am a bit behind the curve on this show, but is anybody still watching this? Are these all re-runs now?

Anyway, anybody watch the "Tim" episode on Sun/Mon, guy addicted to crack, bugging out in the sewer drain, what was up with that? And why on earth would somebody as hot as that girl, Madison I think, still be with him after all that b.s.?

I watch it every week. As far as I know, these last few have all been brand new eps.

And Madison is an idiot :)

neilo13 08-11-06 08:42 AM

There are new episodes on?! I need to start watching again, this show is one of the most entertaining on television, and I don't know why (maybe I need an intervention from this show :) ) Is it still on sundays at 10pm?

Meathead 08-11-06 08:56 AM

Yes, Sundays at 10pm. New episodes started a couple weeks ago.

Yes, Madyson is an idiot.

aJOHNymous 03-20-08 08:46 AM

Had to bump this thread for the new episode that was on this week.

Spoilers below if you haven't seen it yet -

This was the first episode I can remember where the subject of the show actually died after the intervention, treatment, and eventual relapse.

The subject was an alcoholic who was an owner/operator of multiple tanning salons in the Las Vegas area and was an alcoholic for the better part of eight years. He went from a rich guy who was incredibly physically fit, with a wife who looked like a playmate, to a broken down, bruised, fidgety, skinny mess who developed cirrhosis of the liver. Rarely do the subjects of this show look so awful - and that's saying a lot. The follow-up text at the end of the episode was pretty jarring, though. He was kicked out of treatment after 30 days for not taking his recovery seriously (he was in complete denial of his addiction for the entire epsiode). Within three weeks he had relapsed, developed severe internal bleeding and hemorrhaging, and ultimately passed away.

I kind of figured he wouldn't make it too long, but I'm so used to seeing everyone on the show either get clean, or relapse and go back to treatment that when they mentioned he died a few weeks prior to the episode airing, it was pretty shocking stuff.

This show is intense. Anyone else still watching?

islandclaws 03-20-08 11:24 AM

^ I know what you mean. This guy had to be the most in-denial person I've ever seen on the show. I blame it all on his step-father who apparently beat him mercilessly and told him to "act like a man". I think that if he admitted he had a problem he felt it would be showing he was weak. Such a shame since that guy seemed to have it all and he let it all go because of an out of control addiction. Definitely a big surprise that he died. Has that ever happened before on this show?

IamHydrogen1 03-23-08 04:58 PM

I've just started watching this show - so they're all new episodes for me.

Very depressing show. It seems like the happy endings are few and far between, which is probably a reflection of reality.

One of the worst to see was the Iraq war vet that was an alcoholic. I think he was 19. The common thread is that these people all have prior family issues of one form or another. This kid was abandoned by his mother who took his twin sisters and left him behind. Add the trauma of the war, and its no wonder he started hitting the bottle.

Channel 101 has a great parody of this series called "Stop It."

[sarcasm] No, not at all. It's pretty subtle.[/sarcasm]

Funny story, my gf and I were walking around in downtown Laguna Beach last week and we saw Tressa, the meth-addicted Olympic shotput hopeful, showing off her "guns" at a local bar and chatting it up. She looked like your typical biker bitch.

slop101 07-13-08 12:09 PM

Bumping, as I just caught a few episodes for the first time during a marathon. Definitely hard-hitting stuff.

Most of the time I'm thinking that this stuff is way too personal and private for me or anyone else to be seeing, but I'm fascinated by the human aspect of it and what it is that leads to such destruction.

It makes me realize how fortunate I am to have been born to and raised by such wonderful and loving parents, as it seems like everyone's problems on this show stems from some sort of abuse suffered as a child.

Re: "Intervention" on A&E - anyone else addicted?

I'm still watching the show, and still captivated by it, even though it's almost always the same thing in every episode. Last night's episode was pretty sad, because the guy ended up staying in the state where he went through rehab, despite the fact that he left behind one of his main sources of inspiration - his daughter.

Re: "Intervention" on A&E - anyone else addicted?

Had to give this thread a bump because last night's episode, "Rocky", was hands-down "best ever" status for me. I'm usually good for a tear or two during the actual intervention part, but last night I could not stop crying (during the intervention). This is a show that's been pretty emotional through the years, but I've never seen anything to the magnitude it was last night.

Anyone else catch it? If not, and you're a fan, I highly recommend watching it.

I caught it, def a depressing ep... but I started laughing when Rocky was "crying" during the intervention. Sorry, but that was funny in a very sad way.

Yeah, the sound was funny, but when he was breaking down like that is when I started pouring them out a bit too.

Re: "Intervention" on A&E - anyone else addicted?

Bumping for the return of the show on Lifetime Movie Network. Like the final eps on A&E, the subjects are Canadian. I'm wondering if it's because Canadians might be less familiar with the show, and the subjects will not suspect an intervention.

Re: "Intervention" on A&E - anyone else addicted?

I think they started a while ago, so check reruns carefully. For instance, many episodes were produced in 2012 so don't assume it's not new (in the US) just based on the date. I think they've aired about a dozen so far the past couple months.

Paff 03-23-15 02:27 PM

Re: "Intervention" on A&E - anyone else addicted?

New (non-Canadian) episodes began airing last night.

I kinda wish they'd do more follow-ups though. Especially with last night's subject. She's interviewed 85 days into rehab, is all positive and hopeful, then quits rehab at day 94 and relapses. I know addiction is a day-to-day thing that an addict struggles with constantly, but I have to wonder if there was some kind of impetus to the relapse.

She really needed a fix.

I think the postscripts we see are written just days before the air dates. That's the latest info they have. Arguably, A&E should wait a little longer than the 90-day rehab ends before airing the show.

Good to see Vanvaanderhooven and Candy "I love me Lucky Charms" Finnigan back as interventionists.
