Letterman starts in HD on 08/29/05
Wondering why Letterman is taking such a long break over the last few weeks? It was to install the show's new HD cameras. Late Show starts broadcasting in HD with Monday's show 08/29/05.
Whether we want to see Dave Letterman in HD might be a different story. ;) |
Older Dave can't look any weirder than younger Conan.
|
And his guests on the 29th? McEnroe and Andy Dick. Not really an incentive to run out and get an HDTV.

Finally.
|
You know Dave will have fun with this...
"We're in the HD now, Paul!" Probably get a lot of close ups of goofy things with the text "IN HD!!!" flashing on and off the screen. |
Awesome. I think they should hire a few more Will It Float dancers to celebrate the occasion.
|
Cool! I'm ready for it.
|
I believe the HD cameras have been in place for quite sometime, but the control room wasn't yet. They're going HD without much fanfare so they can work the bugs out.
I'm curious if they'll do any HD-stunts like Conan did for his HD debut? |

Had Pamela Anderson dancing in the black bars while the picture was 4:3. Also just showing himself in the black bars while non-HD viewers saw nothing. Just general goofy Conan stuff.
|
I hope we get:
Top Ten things you do not want to see in HD 10. Closeup of David Letterman 9. 8. 7. 6. 5. 4. 3. 2. 1. Close up of Martha Stewart |

so those people saw a block box in the middle and black bars on the top and bottom as well. |

Bumping for the debut in 20 minutes or so (on my CBS Station anyway).
|
ok... I'm watching... where the hell is the HD picture? Isn't it suppose to be in Widescreen? :hscratch:
|
It's widescreen/HD on the Boston affiliate. They definitely needed better guests to debut this... wow, I'm going to bed. :)
|
I'm crossing my fingers.
I called my CBS affiliate before I left my office and they confirmed they were aware of Letterman debuting in HD tonight and said if there were no problems with the show, that it would be in widescreen HD tonight. 45 minutes and we'll see. About McEnroe, if you're a Letterman fan, you know he's nothing if not loyal. The city of New York gets the US Open and Letterman almost always has John on Day 1 to kick things off and give a reminder to people that the tournament is starting. It was a classic visit the year McEnroe served a ball into a window from on top of a building across the street. I actually got to see a little of Maria Sharapova in HD earlier. Very nice. If you're looking forward to his first HOT guest in HD, that would be Rachel Weisz on Wednesday. Stephen Colbert is on Friday and that should be a riot. |

I missed tonight...did he mention it at all? I DID see Rupert dancing. That was about it. |

I can't believe I live in this shitty city where NBC, ABC, Fox, and UPN so far refuse to let cable or satellite use their HD feeds. The WB is close, I'm told. He's talking about the HD more right now. Showing bacon frying in high-def and stagehands smoking in Hi-Def, Dave comments that it makes all the difference in the world. Then says what you want on the first night in Hi-Def is a guy named Dick (Andy Dick is on the show). Now a fake CBS promo that says "Watch the late show in Hi-Def tonight...what a waste of technology." Top 10 list-Top 10 reasons George Bush is having a bad summer vacation: #1 Spent last week setting up a new television to watch Late Show in Hi-Def. |

As for the letterman himself in HD he held up ok.. I was thinking he was going to look like a zombie or something. http://img384.imageshack.us/img384/5...er019gl.th.jpg http://img384.imageshack.us/img384/9...er029il.th.jpg |

There was also an Alan Kalter "I Don't Think So! in HiDef" segment. Including an address where churches can send away for a DVD copy. |

I'm definatley gonna call and inquire if they plan on making this a habit. Funny thing is, they have links on their KHOU website telling what and how great HDTV is. :grunt: |
