Weeds

Not much talk about Showtime stuff on this board, but I was wondering if anyone caught the first ep of this show tonight and what you thought of it.

Tom Banjo 08-08-05 08:57 AM

I thought it showed a lot of promise. I'll definately be back for future episodes.
I thought it was kinda stereotypical at first that the only black people on the show were the weed suppliers, but now I think it was intentional stereotyping, kinda to play up the waspish suburban lifestyle of the other characters.

MrX 08-09-05 02:33 AM

I enjoyed it. Looking forward to next week.

acetimbo08 08-09-05 02:19 PM

I caught it last night on accident, remember hearing stuff about the show a few months ago, saw a preview trailer online for it. Well when I got home last night I saw that the replay was on and I thought it was great. I really enjoyed the show, I thought it was great, the characters on the show were awesome, really some promise I think. I will definitely be back next week to watch again, just for all the funny parts, hopefully they bring the funny again next week like the did this week.

Jonny2k1 08-09-05 02:53 PM

I just watched this and thought it was great, it definitely has potential. I think showtime has been stepping up their TV game for a while now with great shows like Dead Like Me (too bad they dropped it), The L Word, and now this show. I'll be looking forward to next week.

PixyJunket 08-10-05 08:09 AM

The opening sequence is fucking brilliant. Had to go to sleep before watching the entire episode though.

Patman 08-12-05 10:54 PM

The little wars between parents and kids, and between competing weed dealers were pretty funny, but I don't know if they can sustain this type of show over a long haul because this type of stuff almost always ends up with a drug bust and it's game over for suburban widow weed dealer.

MasterCXtreme 08-12-05 11:07 PM

Pretty good first episode. I enjoyed it.

For some reason Showtime is coming in for our house now... so check out your channels. They might be doing a free week preview.

acetimbo08 08-16-05 02:07 AM

Didn't like this weeks episode as much as last weeks but it wasn't bad. A few unanswered questions this week which will make for some interesting going ons in the coming weeks. Still a pretty good episode, the scenes at the dealer's house are classic, really liking this show so far but the quality drop off kind of bugged me. Oh did anyone else think that the older son character was different this week from last, I couldn't tell but it didn't look like the same kid?

B.A. 08-16-05 07:05 AM

I really enjoyed the first ep. Mary Louise Parker and Elizabeth Perkins were great. I don't really care for the kids though. I also enjoyed the scenes at her dealer's house.

MrX 08-16-05 02:48 PM

This weeks ep was just ok.

Elizabeth Perkins shaving her husband's head then going drinking with the tennis instructor was the best part.

B.A. 08-18-05 09:10 PM

Elizabeth Perkins is freaking hilarious in the second ep.

Michael Corvin 08-19-05 09:00 AM

Just watched the first episode. Kinda meh to me. Not awful, but nothing spectacular either.

My feelings exactly. I'll give it another chance with the second episode, but don't think it'll hook me in enough to keep watching.

Frank TJ Mackey 09-07-05 12:33 AM

I've seen four episodes and I'm shocked there isn't a thread for all of them. I like this show as much as Entourage.

Kevin Dillon is just about the only good thing on that show.

illini420 09-07-05 02:06 AM

I don't know if this show is up at the level of HBO's recent successes, but it's a pretty good show nonetheless. Just seems to move very slowly, or maybe that's the baked goods taking charge?

Jonny2k1 09-07-05 03:08 PM

I still think this is a great show. For some reason my DVR didn't record it on Monday so I will have to catch it tonight (second time my DVR f'd me in the a this week). It just seems like there is never much love for Showtime shows around here, with Dead Like Me as an exception.

B.A. 09-09-05 05:11 PM

I'm finally watching the third ep. I think this show gets better w/ each additional episode - as does Elizabeth Perkins. "I'm like a bloated African-famine baby."

"My maid thinks I fucked a smurf."

"You don't put weed in my cornbread!"

Hamburger3 09-10-05 09:20 AM

"They call me shit girl"

LOL

Jadzia 09-20-05 02:24 PM

The brother in law, Andy is hilarious. We were rolling when he was telling the son about why it's a good thing to date a physically challenged girl. rotfl

And the "Chris dies for your sins" shirt.

And loved him and Kevin Nealon debating the word taint.

"What do you call that thing between the dick and the asshole?"
Maid looking at them: "The coffee table."

Great show.

One of the funniest lines I've ever heard on a show.

Raul3 09-20-05 05:26 PM

yeah, yesterday episode was really funny.

neiname 10-17-05 09:09 AM

Watched all the episodes over the weekend with on demand and enjoyed it. In the first episode it felt like I was watching either the 2nd or 3rd episode of a series as there was a lot to take in and it didn't really explain who the characters were. I'm glad I was able to wqatch the subsequent episodes right away because it really is a funny show with great one-liners.

adamblast 10-17-05 11:00 AM

It's an amazing show. Yep, Showtime shows don't get much love around here. Mary Louise Parker is great, and Justin Kirk has finally got the role of a lifetime as the loveable scum brother-in-law. And who'd have guessed it: Kevin Nealon is actually funny.

Huff is amazing too--Showtime is in top form this season with these two shows. Weeds is what Desperate Housewives *wishes* it was... and Huff is the best family-relationship drama on the air right now, and hilarious too, covering the full range of comedy-tragedy better than anything since SFU at its peak.

Xander 10-17-05 12:23 PM

I really liked this show. I just wish the premium channel's shows didn't have such short seasons. Wasn't this just 10 episodes? Anyway, I'll be tuning in next season. Lots of laughs on this show. Never saw Huff, but now I kind of wish I had.
