Groucho 08-04-05 09:42 AM

Meh. Once Dave hits 60 he'll get bored with the game like most everybody else.

DRG 08-04-05 09:47 AM

"I don't think Dave is going to do it anymore," Murphy told the Post. "We shot about eight shows for the third season, and they're hilarious. They'll be released on DVD, I'm sure. But that's it."
So where are these eps? On cable you can call eight episodes a season and get away with it. Hell, Sopranos does 13 and then disappears for two years. I don't get the whole "sky is falling" attitude here.

It seems like he would have to honor that 2-year $50-million contract. Then he'd be set for life, and people would probably be tired of him by that point anyway.

I love the guy's work, but this is ridiculous.

Breakfast with Girls 08-04-05 12:02 PM

He indicated that the sudden fame was too much. Apparently he would be driving on the highway or something and people would yell, "I'm Rick James, bitch!" at him and, more importantly, his kid.

Groucho 08-04-05 12:03 PM

He mentioned that in his Showtime special. "Please don't call me a bitch in front of my children."

Maybe he should have thought about that before making a career out of doing the same.

That's a good philosophy; Next time you see Brett Favre why don't you run up and tackle him? After all, he chose that profession.

QuikSilver 08-04-05 02:39 PM

Well it was fun while it lasted.

scottall 08-04-05 02:58 PM

Chappelle is this year's Ricky Williams. He'll be back after he runs out of weed money.

mikehunt 08-04-05 03:50 PM

darkness everybody. darkness is coming

calhoun07 08-04-05 04:29 PM

Eh. I'll see what else is on.

riley_dude 08-04-05 05:01 PM

Isn't there another thread?

I would guess he would have to payback the money that is if he has all of it already.
I say, honor the contract and get on with it.

I think it's more like a porn starlet whining because her kids see nekkid pictures of her on the internet.

Hmmm...wouldn't it be more akin to someone approaching a pr0nstar and her children and holding up the aforementioned nekkid pix -- maybe he's an asshat or maybe he just wants an autograph.

In the first case, the cynic in me says, "well what did she expect."

In the second example it's still her fault, but the tactless guy is equally to blame.

Exactly. You have to be an imbecile to not know there are tactless people out there. So if you decide to make a very lucrative and public living partially based on uttering more profanities per minute than any one else on TV, spare me your crocodile tears when you run into people who may be crass but merely quote back to you what you accept big money for saying. I certainly don't blame him for not wanting his kids to hear that kind of stuff. But if he is uncomfortable with his kids hearing his own words maybe he should start looking at himself first before everyone else. Hell, maybe that's what he's been doing?

Whether Dave's show comes back or I hope Charlie Murphy starts getting some more work and bigger roles. It's his time and he's more than proven his talent over the years in movies and on TV.

 Like it or not, he made it famous and people will repeat it to him. Just like people who meet Sting and spontaneously yell, "ROXANNE!!!"

Dave just got a different thing famous. That's all.

ROXANNE!

While I understand your point, that doesn't make it right. What would be the implications for mature entertainment (not porn) if everyone thought it was socially acceptable to shout whatever they said back to the person's kids? If he was doing the Rick James act at a preschool birthday party, I would agree with you, but his performances are clearly meant for adults.

MovieExchange 08-05-05 08:33 AM

All over the net when this is discussed, people seem to be believing Murphy. WHY????

The only people that can say that the show is done are Dave Chappelle or the reps of Comedy Central.

dadaluholla 08-05-05 09:05 AM

I thought Chappelle's kid left him for Nick Cannon anyway....

True.

Also, I don't understand how someone spends years and years on many a failed television pilot, gets the offer and contract of a lifetime then gives it up. I just don't get it.
