MTV & VH1 to Rebroadcast 10 hrs of LIVE 8
Fri Jul 8, 7:22 AM ET
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - After a drubbing from critics, MTV and VH1 will rerun 10 hours of coverage of the Live 8 concert events without commercials on Saturday.
VH1 will carry the first five hours from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., while MTV will carry the second leg from 3-8 p.m.
MTV was roundly assailed by pundits and critics for the frequent commercial breaks and other interruptions during its live coverage of the July 2 concerts.
"In the wake of our coverage, our viewers have resoundingly told us online they want to see full performances from their favorite artists," MTV Networks Music Group president Van Toffler said Thursday.

They said without commercials.. so that alone is better than
what we got last week.
There are dozens of performers we never got to see.
I'm looking forward to seeing Sarah MacLachlan and Josh Groban
I heard they did a duet.. and I don't think MTV aired it, if they did
I didn't see them.

MTV, VH1 To Rebroadcast Live 8 Footage By Barry A. Jeckell, N.Y.
http://www.billboard.com/bb/daily/ar..._id=1000975784
With stinging criticism still fresh of their coverage of last weekend's worldwide Live 8 concerts, MTV and VH1 have confirmed plans to rebroadcast 10 hours of performances tomorrow (July 9). VH1 will offer five hours of programming beginning at 10 a.m. ET, with MTV taking over at 3 p.m. ET.
"We're in a constant and candid dialogue with our audience," MTVN Music Group President Van Toffler says. "In the wake of our coverage last Saturday, our viewers have resoundingly told us online they want to see full performances from their favorite artists."
While each network will tailor the artists offered to fit their respective audience demographic, there will be some overlap. Both will show performances by U2, Pink Floyd, Orchestra Baobab, Coldplay and Paul McCartney. VH1 will exclusively air footage of Dave Matthews Band, Rob Thomas, Sting and Maroon 5, while MTV has dibs on performances by Green Day, Linkin Park and Jay Z, the Killers and Kanye West.
Meanwhile, the Associated Press reports that Live 8 organizer Bob Geldof and U2 lead singer Bono met this morning with French president Jacques Chirac at the beginning of the final day of Scotland's G8 summit to discuss increasing efforts to end poverty in Africa.
Chirac reportedly praised the musician/activists for their efforts and conceded that substantially increased international monetary aid was necessary to alleviate the suffering of the continent's people.
Tonight at 9 p.m. ET/PT, MTV will air a half-hour news special, "Live 8: Next Steps," which will profile the concerts and the G8 summit. The channel will re-air the special tomorrow at 8 p.m. ET/PT, following its rebroadcast of Live 8 highlights.

I like their attitude about being in a conversation with our audience. It's so rational. "We thought that viewers might enjoy lots of commercials, contant interruptions, and only tiny fragments of performances. We've received some constructive criticism and now we're going to try something else!"

Too little, too late. The MTV 'fans' (the people who don't have anything else) will think you are doing great. Most everyone else will use this to see it on their home theaters, and then go back to hating you.

This was pretty good. No commercials and full songs. I really enjoyed the Pink Floyd stuff.
So..as long as MTV is acting like they are listening, should we ask them to play VIDEOS again?

And another vote for the online content mentioned above. I checked it out and it was pretty good. I expected to have to pay but it is a free site. Def Leppard sounded pretty good. Also got to hear some other skipped bands/performances.
Hope the DVD has 'em all.
