I disqualify "Vaniller" for rewriting the lyrics

I actually really liked the New Wave feel Tutone put on All the Small Things. If that song came out in the 80s like he played it he would have had a second hit and wouldn't have to write financial software for 8s, 6s, 7s and 5309s.

You know they picked him just so Robbins can say "Vaniller" again.

I actually liked the new arrangement in the Norah Jones song, although it was a bit off seeing The Motels chick do it.

Apparently this will be the theme, with rap acts 'sampling' the new songs. You'd think at least Vaniller could've had a female come in and sing the hook at least.

I love the Knack and a smattering of Tutone and Motels songs. And I can't stand Vanilla Ice.

But, I'm not surprised he won. He did a surprisingly decent job (of course, had low expectations).

Glad my wife and I weren't the only ones bothered by vaniller. Although I did notice at the end he pronounced it right.

I love the Knack, didn't care for their cover.

I liked the re-arrangment of the Norah Jones song by the Motels.

Tommy Tutone picked a bad song for him to cover.

Vaniller didn't bother with a cover as much as trying to get play for a new song.

Haddaway, what the fuck was he thinking with all that crawling around?

First time I've watched. I enjoyed seeing the artists do their big hit, but snored at the covers. And that host is beyond horrible. I won't watch again just because I hate him so much.

I've got the TV on mute and they're the only reason why this show is on.

Hmm.. I wonder why Ice went back to rapping when he'd probably do much better doing more Limp Bizkit/Linkin Park type stuff than being a wannabe Eminem.

Anyways, I would have voted for 'The Knack', but 'Vaniller' did well 'cause he's a Rewriter... um... Survivor!*

... and on a side note, HoJo** is replacing Night Ranger next week!

* and he can pop a wheelie on a motor cycle!

** That's Howard Jones to you youngins.

That made me sad seeing Tommy Tutone working a day job. Nobody with a hit as big as Jenny should ever have to work a 9 to 5 They need to go on the road and play the casinos or state fairs. There are worse bands than that charging $30+ a head.

It was interesting for me to find out that I work across the street from Martha Davis of The Motels. I think I've even seen her picture in the ads for Teatro Zinzanni.

The covers weren't impressive, but nobody was as big of a disaster as last week. The Knack should've done better. I don't know why he thought he had to sing that part so high. Instead of going for a high note they should have sung those lines together, like on My Sharona. It probably wouldn't have helped them win though. Apparently the studio audience are into rap.

Definitely an improvement over last week.

I thought that pretty much all artists did a good job covering their original hits.

As for the covers, no one really blew me away, so it was no surprise that Vanilla Ice won. The Motels version was horrible, but it was great to see them taking it a different route. Everyone else was passable.

I think that it is a safe bet that whoever was the biggest during their peak (assuming that peak wasn't too long ago) will be the winner. I think that last week Arrested Development won because they were so much better than the rest, including Tiffany, who seemed like a sure shot to win.

Not sure if it was posted yet, but here are the covers for next week:

Cameo
Spoiler:
1985 - Bowling For Soup

Howard Jones
Spoiler:
White Flag - Dido

Irene Cara
Spoiler:
I'm Outta Here - Anastacia

Wang Chung
Spoiler:
Hot In Herre - Nelly

Sophie B Hawkins
Spoiler:
100 Years - Five For Fighting

Since none of these were ever huge stars, it's gonna be close to call.

As for the covers, there are definitely some interesting choices, especially from Wang Chung and Cameo. I don't know the Irene Cara cover, at least not at first glance.

I'd call HoJo the biggest star in that group. I'm looking forward to him next week.

Well, since the only person from the 90's is Sophie B. Hawkins, I predict her the winner.

The studio audience seems too young to remember the 80's groups so I think they are voting for people from their early 90's childhoods.

I'm a big fan of Howard Jones, so it will be nice to see him again. I really think that he was very underrated.

Some of these covers really have me baffled.

He tried it. It didn't work.

Before anyone bags on Cameo for having one or two hits (maybe it happened already), they had 14 charting albums and roughly 30 charting singles between the late '70s and early '90s.
