OK. After watching the pilot again and reading the comments in the Finale thread I have a few things that I noticed.

1. Yes I noticed that black smoke flying around all over the crashed airplane on the beach. And we get the same noise in the background of whenever we hear the monster.

2. Right before the plane crash and the plane starts shaking, we hear the same noises as the plane is shaking.

3. The black woman says that the noise sounds familiar, i think those are the instances she was referring to.

4. From the pilot episode it seems like the black woman was supposed to be a leading character, but we hardly see her in the later episodes. She definately gets more screen time than Michael, Walt, Locke, and Sawyer.

Not me. That just means there will be more 3-4 week gaps with reruns, retreads and no shows.

Still managing to avoid all spoilers, I went ahead and watched the first half of the pilot today. The show had many of the typical cliches, entirely predictable "surprises," and completely unbelievable actions (or inactions) of characters which typically plague a drama like this, things which normally cause me to avoid these shows. But there were a few interesting and "real feeling" moments and plot points, at least enough to make me curious enough to follow through with part 2 anyway. That's more than I can say about 98% of the genre.
