Universal HD question
My cable company is adding Universal HD, finally get to see BSG in HD :) . How many of you watch this channel and are the movies or shows unedited and/or commercial free?
|
I watch it pretty regularly -- I've been catching up on Monk, Battlestar Galactica, and Karen Sisco on Universal HD (and occasionally watch Law and Order: SVU if nothing else is on). Their selection of movies is mostly dismal, but there are some gems every once in a while. I've watched The Evil of Frankenstein (Hammer), Casino, 12 Monkeys, and Thoughtcrimes on there, with The Frighteners, U-571, Spy Games, and Curse of the Werewolf slated to DVR.
Movies are unedited and commercial free. TV shows aren't commercial-free, but the breaks are really short (as many as 3 commercials and as few as 1). I've had it for around 2 months and find myself watching it much more frequently than I thought I would. |
The fact they still seem to play a 4 hour block of Olympic coverage every day is only further proof they need to expand their slate of programming a bit. I watch it just as much as HDNet, but I don't feel I really get my $11/month worth out of any of the channels in the DirecTV HD package.

Good to hear this will show unedited commercial free HD movies. I am happy to be getting another HD channel, I think I will upgrade and finally get Showtime and Starz since they are adding Starz HD. Now if they would finally add Fox-WB (local owner is trying to squeeze Cox for more $$) TNT and OETA it would make me happier.

Starz-HD is not worth it, if you have to pay any extra. Only a very small percentage of what they air is in HD. Showtime's pretty bad about that too (maybe 3 out of every 5 movies), but they are committed to showing everything in their original aspect ratio, which is a plus. I personally find Showtime's selection of movies (which rarely changes much month-to-month) disappointing.

I've been Tivoing KAREN SISCO at my sister's house. Carla in HD.

this channel plays way too much cancelled tv for my tastes.
|
UHD: Aka the "Welcome to New York" and "2004 Olympics" channel.

I have only see a few shows off UHD but what I have seen is pretty good. BSF is high def is awesome. I only have a 4:3 55" RPTV but the HD version is still much better than when see on the SciFi channel.
|
Damn, I wish Comcast would pick this channel up.
|
Do they show the new episodes of BSG the same day/week as Sci-Fi?
|
UHD has a showing of The Frighteners coming up. I have my HD Tivo set up for that one and am looking forward to it.

Either way, I'm happy to rewatch S1 again. :) |

UHD is at least 16x9 for everything they show. Other than a few 4:3 commercials here and there, that is.
