Hit Me Baby One More Time, on NBC: Premieres 6/2/05

I just found out about this tonight, and after doing a search I didn't see a thread on it:

http://www.nbc.com/nbc/Hit_Me_Baby/

It's where former stars of the music industry compete to have a shot at a career...in the music industry. I don't even know what to say about this. I see that it's another UK based show, so if any of you have seen that, how is it? Did the winner(s) actually get a career going in the mainstream again? This coming week they are going to have the following on the show going at it:

-A Flock of Seagulls
-Arrested Development (OMG IT'S RETURNING~!)
-Loverboy
-The Romantics
-Tiffany

Who would you like to see on this show, either because you really like them, or just for a laugh.

I wish they would do the opposite of this show, where they would have current stars in the music industry competing to keep their career/record deals. Now that would be must see TV.

I'd definitely watch when one of my old favorites is on, although I don't see how this would resurrect their careers.

When will they have The B-Sharps on?

It'll be cool to see The Knack. They were a pretty kick-ass band.

If you hold on for a couple more years Britney will fit the profile for this show

I'll be watching.

It looks like it might be like VH1's Bands Reunited, which I loved.

I actually think this might be good. Sort of a cross between Bands Reunited and American Idol.

As for future shows, this page (http://www.ocatv.com/schedule.php?sh...&event_id=1551) for 'On Camera Audience' site has:

June 6
- Sophie B. Hawkins
- Wang Chung
- Irene Cara

June 8
- The Knack
- Air Supply
- Vanilla Ice
- Tommy Tutone
- The Motels

Another site mentions Billy Ray Cyrus and Boyz II Men, who I assume will be on the second show as that only has three listed. Apparently there will be only these three episodes at first, just to see if it catches on.

I will check it out. These were some pretty well-known bands when I first getting into music.

From my Tivo listing:

"Veteran musicians compete with performances of their hits and a cover of a popular song, with the winner to be determined by audience voting; included are updates on each performer's career as well as a history of their paths to fame."

This should be good.

I'm actually much more interested in seeing these retro groups cover modern day songs than just doing their hits. Who will keep up with the times and who will look foolish trying to do modern stuff? I think the singers have a distinct advantage over the bands and the rappers. Tiffany should do well, since she's done several cover songs in her career. But what will Vanilla Ice do? An Eminem song? That would be ironic and hilarious. What about Wang Chung or Loverboy?

My only gripe with this is that they should have a few 80s metal hair bands in there like Poison, Cinderella, Whitesnake, etc.

I don't think I'd care for that, although I suppose that is what they will probably do.

I think it would be more interesting to hear them do covers of each other's hits.

I agree with on the hair bands - no throwback contest would be complete without them.

Very funny concept. We're really through the looking glass these days.

As for Vanilla Ice, I'm sick of him. He's popping up on too many of these shows. His attitude on the last VH1 debacle he was on was just too much. He's not even funny anymore.

Based on the NBC website, only the live studio audience gets to vote.

You loved them "then", but will you love them now? Based on the popular UK show of the same name, "Hit Me Baby One More Time" tracks down hitmakers from the past and they take the stage in a new competition in which you're the judge! Former Top Ten artists return to perform their trademark hit song along with one of today's current hits. The live audience decides which veteran hit maker deserves a second chance in the limelight!

That sucks.

I'll still probably watch, since I fondly remember many of the bands.

Looks like this show is taking the place of Last Comic Standing on the NBC Summer Grid.

Sadly... I'll watch every ep.

Obviously you forgot the SNL skit on their "All Out of Love" song with Will Ferrell. I can't hear that song without absolutely cringing.

However, I'll be all over this show. It is the modern update of Andy Kaufman's "Has Been Corner." And we might accidentally get some good music to boot.

Is it going to be all the original members of the groups? Didn't someone in Loverboy die? And The Romantics are no longer listed on the NBC website.
