CSI newbie, possible to watch season finale tomorrow night?

Alright, I am an admited Tarantino whore who will watch and own everything he has done, so i was wondering if it would be tough to follow going in having never watched an episode.

No. And by no, I mean yes.

Why don't you just watch it and see?

This show has no real continuity, each episode is self-contained. I've only seen a few episodes, but I've never been lost or confused. Kinda like Law and Order.

True but not true. Each espisode is self contained, however if you haven't watched the show, you won't understand the dynamics of the team or how the CSI lab runs.

Well, let's see:

Sara's crush on/relationship with Grissom
Rick's and Katherine's flirting
Greg's status as the gopher for the team

the episodes are definitely self-contained.

the plots that run throughout the season actually don't take up much of an individual show... Sara's crush on grissom, Sara's alcoholism, katherine's guilt over being a horrible mother, katherine's daddy issues, warrick's gambling problem, grissom's hearing loss (by the way, what the hell ever happened with this sub-plot?), eckley's ability to be a prick, etc.

so there may be some parts of the show that you don't get, but overall, i'd say you shouldn't be lost at all.

grissom's hearing loss (by the way, what the hell ever happened with this sub-plot?)
It was resolved in the Season 3 finale, where he went into surgery to correct the loss...and was mentioned (jokingly) in the Season 4 premiere, which was a 2-part episode.

The hearing loss mention in the season 4 premiere was very subtle. Basically it was like this(sorry to be so vague with the details):

At a crime scene (where else would they be?) Grissom notices something making a quiet sound (cellphone or pager ringing?- don't remember what it was) and Catherine picks it up and asks 'you heard that?' Grissom doesn't answer, but either makes a quick glance or says 'uh-huh'. Catherine replies 'you're back'- implying that he's in top form once again, to which Grissom says 'huh?'- then winks at her.

I don't remember all the specifics, but that was pretty much how it played out.

I can relate- I didn't see any of it until last December- I just decided to see what all the hype was about finally and rented the DVDs....but I hate watching the show on TV when I now know how damn beautiful it looks in widescreen. It makes me feel like I'm not really watching it- does that make any sense?

Go get a better tv.

Like others said, for the most part the show is self contained and you should be entertained regardless. My only beef is that the plot for the finale is pretty big, and there will be little to no emotional impact since you don't know the characters. Kinda like just watching the last 10 minutes of Braveheart, w/o seeing the first 3 hours.

Ah, Nick, i remember that episode distinctly. just didn't remember the surgery, so to me, it was if they just dropped the plot.

Except for Greg being the field newbie, these things are rarely played up, and certainly not essential to being able to follow.

I had never watched CSI until I started watching it in HD last summer. Now my wife and I watch all three.

Watch the show. You miss on the sub-plots, but you should be fine for the main stories during the show.

I've never seen a single episode. Let's not think that just because you enjoy a program that everyone else does, too.

I never said it would be hard to follow, just that there might be some aspects of the character's development that might pop up here being the season finale and all.

But how would you know you don't enjoy it if you've never seen it. I think NORML54601 was pointing out that it's odd to own a TV and not atleast see 1 episode of the highest rated program. It's like owning a xbox and never playing Halo.

Given the plot of the episode, I seriously doubt there will be some flirting going on.

CSI has a self-contained plot that's driven by the story and not the characters. But the characters aren't pedestrian like they are on L&O though.

Wow, this show has more complicated underlying plot threads than Lost! Guess I'll have to pass, lest I be confused by the flirting.

Groucho confused by flirting? There's an interesting twist.
