Impossible when you don't know how many seasons the show will be renewed

You're right. The first season covers the first 40 days on the island.

I get that, but I'm not saying they have to show every single one. Just that every once inawhile pop out some random guy or girl and have them actually in a conversation with one of the regulars, or going hunting with them, picking fruit, getting firewood, whatever. Maybe have Jack tending to a cut on their leg, or have them helping with the raft... It just annoys me that there's 30-odd people that are part of the community that never interact with the regulars unless there's a major event happening.

As for the holding back, I agree they'll probably do this. But it's going to be stupid when they do, because there will be this person that was never referenced, never important enough to talk to the majors, and never involved in any major events and is suddenly doing important things and part of the action.

I'm sure they interact all day long... but showing it would be pointless as it's not moving the story forward.

A day is 24 hours...an episode per day means we only see 45 out of 1440 minutes. take away 20 minutes for flashback.... and we see 25 minutes out of a 1440 minute day.

I understand the nature of tv casts, regulars and whatnot. But at the same time, it wouldn't hurt to include one of these random people in something eventful every once in awhile (other than simply being 'red shirts').
To me it seems like if they are going to focus on 13 survivors, they should have just had them be the only 13 survivors (that we know about). That way if they did need to shake things up by adding a cast member or two, they could "find" more survivors who were previously unknown. That's the only thing that's really bothered me about the show. In the promos they would always say "everyone has a secret", but it doesn't seem they've been true to that so far.

The extra survivors could be used like the red shirts on Star Trek.

Is it just me or has every joke in this thread been repeated at least twice?

Didn't they have one of the other survivors playing golf with them?

Same reason Claire is in great shape about 3 days after her baby was born, along with every other girl who gave birth in TV history. Or that newly born babies are never bloody and gooey. Somehow on TV they come out of the womb very clean and cute.

The magical world of television.

As soon as I saw Art I started laughing thinking about my posts in this thread. I also like the way the characters (especially Sawyer) interacted with him... it felt like he was there the whole time, even though we hadn't seen him yet. I don't really need to see him again, however, as he served his purpose.

On the Lost thread it was mentioned that future seasons will focus on the other survivors and less on the current group.

I'm not sure, but I think he's a new regular.
