The Contender 4/17/05

Pretty good fight between Joey and Jimmy. Gotta give props to Joey for fighting through that pulled hamstring.

Rival11 04-17-05 08:16 PM

I'm glad Joey won and I had the surround sound blasting the whole show.

I'm not sure.......but it looks like they brought Ahmed back - I really hope not and hopefully I just got fooled by the editing, but it looked like Ahmed was knocking somebody out in one quick clip that was shown.

Dabaomb 04-17-05 09:13 PM

I missed tonight's show cuz I was out the entire day at a meeting and then dinner with my family and didnt' get home till almost 10 PM.

Looks like they'll be a replay of it at 8 PM on CNBC on Monday night.

Pretty weak that NBC would show it. I am hoping it is just a teaser or previous shot. But it looks as though he knocks Gomez on his ass.

How are they going to choose the fights in the second round???????????????/

Hopefully, I'll be able to catch a replay on CNBC tomorrow night.

It is worth checking out. The whole marine/father angle got me kind of choked up.

astrochimp 04-17-05 10:08 PM

Was happy for Sergio(the Latin Snake) winning the truck,he's my favorite fighter of the bunch :)

Joeboo835 04-17-05 10:10 PM

Coudl be editing, but thats for sure is Ahmed. When the 8 of them are standing there, he's standing next to Gomez in the red.

If you were fighting for a million, wouldn't you bring someone back you know you could beat? I certainly would. Makes sense that they brought him back. Plus he'll get into Ishe's head

Josh H 04-17-05 10:11 PM

Pretty good fight, but dull episode with no challenge.

And yes it looks like they bring Ahmed back. I paused it and he was in the picture when they had all 8 in the ring and it was him hitting Alfonzo and knocking him off balance.

Why they hell would they bring him back? Almost enough to make me not want to watch. But I guess I can just hope to see him get his ass kicked again.

Also, what a bunch of ******* the east team were. They win 2 fights. One guy lost and got voted back, and the other guy got hurt in his win and quit. -rolleyes-

mytzplyx 04-17-05 11:02 PM

Great fight. I was pulling for Joey all the way. I thought it was nice that one of them was given a car without doing any challenge. A total freebie.

Artman 04-17-05 11:07 PM

So, from the promos what are the matches for next wk?

shaqIQ1 04-17-05 11:10 PM

Gotta love them pimp/gangster suits they wore at Vegas! Cracked me up everytime I saw them.

nazz 04-17-05 11:28 PM

It pisses me off that Ahmed is coming back and also that they showed it in the preview. This has been an honorable show so far and this really seems to tarnish it. I'll still watch but it is disapointing.

Bill Needle 04-18-05 01:42 AM

Actually I'm surprised there aren't spoilers all over the place for this show. The fights happened a long time ago, and there are what loolks like several hundred people attending each of them.

Darq 04-18-05 03:03 AM

Maybe i missed it by forwarding through the episode, but is there a story behind why James Caan was rooting for Jimmy? It looked like he knew him or something.

Only one they showed was Ahmed vs. Alfonzo. And that could possibly be from a fight further down the road.

No way to no for sure.

They didn't show anything about Caan other than him sitting in the crowd as he has for several fights.

Perhaps he had money on Jimmy? Though it would seem odd for him to bet on such a heavy favorite.

I got the finale (supposedly) spoiled to me on another message board by a loser. If you want to know the final 2, shoot me an email.

Phodg 04-18-05 01:35 PM

It also looked like Ishe vs. Sergio in the other fight. Very poor job by NBC of showing the upcoming bouts in the previews.

Josh H 04-18-05 02:03 PM

I didn't notice Ishe vs. Sergio.

I'd more expect to see Ishe Vs. Anthony. Both because they've been playing that up and they reshowed some of the clips of anthony and Ishe bitching about him on the preview.

Not quite sure how the next round of fights are picked either but at least we won't have to watch those goofy challenges anymore.........or do we? ;)

TruGator 04-18-05 05:25 PM

Regarding how the fights are picked for the next round:
Spoiler:
I'm pretty sure I read that they'll all compete in a big individual challenge to determine who fights. The winner of the challenge can either decide to fight and pick who he wants to fight, or decline to fight and pick two other people to fight.

thelwig14 04-18-05 07:19 PM

It will be interesting to see how much effort they put on the dvd release. If they an option for unedited fights, I WILL definitely buy it. If the fights are still edited, I will only buy it if the price is reasonable.

Dabaomb 04-18-05 09:04 PM

I was able to catch the replay on CNBC tonight and that was definitely a good fight.

Joey dominated rounds 1 & 2. Then Jimmy easily won rounds 3 & 4 once Joey's hamstring popped. Then Joey won an impressive 5th round.

Both fighters were pretty beat up with bloody noses.

Jesse said that Joey's nose was broken and his left eye looked pretty beat up.

I'm not surprised that Juan decided to quit. He would've lost pretty badly to most of the remaining guys and he knew that. Sure it wasn't the manly thing to quit but he knew that he was outclassed at that point and a punishing defeat would probably hurt him more than him quitting.

I'm also surprised that they brought back Ahmed. Although Ahmed lost to Ishe, he clearly has the skills of a good fighter. He just lost to a better boxer that night as Ishe is clearly one of the best fighters out there. Plus, since Ahmed was an early fight, he has the most time to heal; he also didn't get beat up too badly during that fight with Ishe.

The pride of a lot of these boxers is gonna bite them in the but. They all wanna fight the best but if they were smart they would've brought back Tarik who has lost most of his boxing skill and would've been an easy fight.

I think that the weakest link is still Joey, not cuz he lacks skill but simply cuz he can't move out there and he was the most recent fight so he has the least time to heal.

Patman 04-18-05 09:09 PM

Juan had to be in the wrong weight class, no?
