I thought this line was pretty fantastic too. And although there's the humor of the line in modern day thought processes, and because Sol's a Jew, but I wonder historically if book keeping and Jewishness weren't synonymous, and not necessarily racist.

well, they were synonymous because of racism and traditional stereotypes about Jews. same difference.

I still think Ms Isringhausen is hot.

The General is a new character, right? I don't remember him showing up in another episode. Guessing we'll be seeing more of him.

Yes - new character. Though we were briefly introduced to Hostetler last season.

Seth bought the land for his families house from Hostetler, right?

BTW...you'd think he could build it a coupl of hundred feet AWAY from town...whats the deal?

That's how much I love the dialogue in this show. I actually scanned back nine times so I could transcribe this little speech and memorialize it within my LJ. And yes, I know what a shameless dork I am, so you don't have to tell me. ;) I just think this series is brilliant. And I don't toss that word around regarding TV shows very often.

By the way - do you guys have one central "Deadwood" thread or do you just discuss the episodes on a week-by-week basis?

Did this end with the black guy that rented the horse holding his head? Not sure if I got all of it or not.

Actually when he bought the land, it was outside of town (per his conversasion with Star), this just shows how fast Deadwood grew in 6 months.

One question,

why did the "****** general" run from the mob to hide? If he was araid of being a scapegoat, why didnt he tell Holsfetter (SP?) to hide? Also, why did they want HIM, and not settle for Holsfetter?

lol, more than one question, but a question on one subject.

I think he had some past vendetta with the leader of the town mob. I watched that part again, and the guy was talking about how the general got him drafted and got his cousin addicted or something, then took his riches. It sounds like something that will be further explained in upcoming episodes.

I personally think this is one of the best episodes of Deadwood yet. The second season wasn't enticing me much, but after this episode I can't wait till Sunday.

Might have something to do with the mob being pissed at Yankton (and as an extention the uS Government) and the ***** general wearing Union Blues (or whatever)

It wasn't anything personal - they were using the General as a scapegoat.
