Carnivale season 3?

I have heard that carnivale might not be picket up for a season 3, wich would be a shame as it is the best show on tv. Anyone have any light to shed on this? And please no spoilers as i don't get hbo in norway and i have yet to see season two.

It hasn't been announced whether Carnivale will be returning for a third season.

All I know was after Deadwood when they announced Carnivale they said "season finale" granted that does not mean a thing. However they left way to many unanswered question not to have a Season 3. You would think if the writers did not think there was a good possibility it was going to picked up they would written an ending with some closure.

I agree this is one of the top shows on TV right now.

The best thing for fans of the show to do now is send snail mail telling people how much you love the show and how it's the only reason you subscribe to HBO. (folks should also buy the s. 1 set if they haven't and can afford to).

The maker of the show has said that the way he had it planed there would be six seasons two seasons per story making it three stories. And i do hope we get to see them all.

I read this over at the forum at imdb, but as it is imdb i would take it with a grain of salt. But one can hope that this guy is right. And a dvd in september or auguss would be nice. And perhaps one in Hd dvd, that would be real nice.

" THE SHOW HAS BEEN RENEWED!!!!!

Carnivale and Deadwood have already been renewed for a third season according to hbo execs that my friend coordinates with on a daily basis. As long as the show gets over 1 million rating Hbo will continue it, Keep in mind that the wire gets less ratings and has continued, and Arliss got even worse and went on for seven seasons.

Currently Carnivale is averaging 1.7 million below last years 2 million but well about the 1 million mark. I'll have more details later, but my friend has said that Hbo feels that thier shows take time to develop higher ratings since sopranos. He said that Carnivale got higher ratings it's first season one reason was because it had sex and the city a ratings powerhouse to lead it in for awhile. Many reports indicate that men watch Desperate housewives with their spouses which has porbably hurt ratings however since using deadwood as the lead in carnivale's ratings have rose since both shows share the same demographic.

Hbo is fearing that Rome will have rating problems since abc (a national station) will be premiereing a similar show. But with Sopranos and six feet under ending and mostly comedies coming (entourage, curb, lisa kudrow show) Carnivale is definately needed and is definately pulling in satisfactory ratings.

I'll have more details on this later: But since the new writers have taken over my friend has informed me the show has taken a huge turn example of this according to him would be management was never intended to be justins father, justin was never going to get the tree tattoo etc. How much of this I believe I don't know, but as far as the hbo/tv and renewal stuff goes that is correct. He said that the 1 million viewer rule is applied to all of thier shows. "

" I said I didn't really believe the story changing stuff that much. But the show has been renewed, my friend is a post supervisor and cuts promos for the show and dvd features. The season 2 dvd will be out around august or September this year possibly a little earlier in the summer. But the show has definately been renewed, again the 1 million viewership bumper rule is being met. "

Hopefully a reputable post over at IMDb.

With imdb all we can do is dream, but who knows. He might be right, and that would be nice.

Well, Deadwood has been renewed for a third season. No mention of Carnivale. :(

CheckTheMeaning 03-30-05 05:13 PM

Deadwood had to get picked up for another season, didn't it win an award? I think Ian McShane got a Golden Globe for his performance I think.

Regardless, I hope deep down in the bottom of my heart that this show gets picked up. HBO has never seemed to care about ratings, but they really should pick up this show.

Honestly, HBO or ABC I'll take HBO anyday of the week. At least they can do whatever they want when it comes to language, violence, and sex.

I've never watched Carnivale, though I have HBO. But after reading how so many people love it, I want to see it now. So there are 2 seasons already? I know the latest season just ended. Will HBO be showing them all some weekend or something? Is season 1 on DVD? Thanks a lot.

JasonF 03-30-05 06:17 PM

Season 1 is on DVD. Season 2 is not yet, but almost certainly will be at some point in the near future. HBO-2 is re-running Season 2 from April 6-8, and the episodes are available via HBO on demand.

As for the show itself, it is somewhat dense -- denser than any other HBO series, let alone network fare -- but very rewarding.

Yup, and Carnivale won five.

Thanks...dense as in it makes you think a little bit? That's always a positive.

I'll have to make sure I have my Tivo freed up those days :) .

More than just a little bit. This show is the most masterfully crafted work of art I've ever had the pleasure to watch. There are scenes from the pilot episode which give hints to things to come in the second season finale, and I bet, if the show survives, even further down the line.

The show's been plotted out for six seasons, so unlike most shows where they just go where the wind takes them, there's such a deepness to every tiny scene, every small prop in each scene, that allows you to examine an episode for hours upon hours. In this show, for the most part, every line has some significance, whether it's understood when the episode airs or years later.

aktick 03-30-05 10:44 PM

Sweet, sounds great...my Blockbuster better have it!

Yeah, it picked up five Emmys:

Art Direction
Cinematography
Costuming
Hairstyling
Outstanding Main Title

It was also nominated for casting and non-prosthetic make-up.

I don't think any of these wins were televised, and they're not particularly sexy categories. Still, five wins out of seven nominations is nothing to sneeze at, but it still doesn't provide publicity shots of James Gandolfini waving his Emmy around.

Well I didn't know Carnivale had won any awards. I had just heard that Deadwood did, maybe because it was a big award that Deadwood won in Best Actor.

LorenzoL 03-31-05 09:10 PM

Well, just like the earlier post from imdb.com, this post from aicn.com so take it with a grain of salt. They are saying that the show won't be renewed. Their source is an article in Variety. Does anybody has a subscription and could they be kind enough to post the article which aicn.com is referencing...

Carnivale really needs another season. It is a wonderful show.

ChrisHicks 04-01-05 10:48 AM

with renewals being handed out left and right I'm feeling its the end of this show. it feels like Dead Like Me all over again. we'll probable just be sitting here for a long time while every single other show gets renewed but this one. :(
